NSHM Knowledge Campus MBA Review By Rehba Alvi

NSHM doesn’t throw admissions like any private university or college. CMAT score or rather a healthy score in CMAT is required to get admissions here. The management is quite polite and MBA though was not in my plans but to my surprise my dad and other family members urged me to do it. Unthinkable happens at NSHM Knowledge Campus as education in the classroom is something in which the college doesn’t believe. At one point, our classes were scheduled and the very next moment somebody used to come in and say that students will be taken on tour today. So, survival here was paramount because if you can’t adjust, you can’t survive here. In short, NSHM is like a breath of fresh air where hanging around though is not an option. Few years down the line MBA for girls was considered a taboo thing but thankfully this change has happened for good and now what one would see is the ratio of 60:40 in favor of boys. At least, in NSHM the ratio was this and I was happy that I have not opted for a course where I have guys right, left, and center of me.

First semester of course was a traditional one where the classes happened and attendance had to be kept in check. In the second semester the tables turned. Less classes and more practicals and seminars. In the final semester, we had to go for our respective internships. Upon return, our health report card (performance report card) was with the training and placement cell and they called us for developing soft skills. By the beginning of fourth semester placements started happening and finally some generosity was shown by the college while giving us grades for the final semester.

Their teaching was incredible as they were all MBA degree holders so knowing what MBA is and what specific roles are we going to play in the industry were the mettle of their teaching pedagogy. There’s something in the water of NSHM that faculties did exactly the opposite of what the higher authorities asked them to. However, they took all their decisions in favor of the students. All in all, it was an incredible style of teaching because taking us out or arranging our classes in discussion halls were their ideas. Initially I thought it’s all a gimmick but now I realize that those things have helped me or rather are helping me today in my work.

For MBA students a completely different set of companies came like Bajaj Capital, Aditya Birla Finance, ICICI Prudential, PEPSICO, and others. Initially we were told that the IT companies will rule the placement party but as I have mentioned earlier in my review that unthinkable happens at NSHM. I initially got scared because even though I was doing MBA, I wasn’t so good with company profiles or their share holding patterns. Luckily, I went through the interviews and had few offers in the list of students who were offered jobs. The average placement for 2017-19 batch was around 6 lakhs and nearly 90% of the students were placed through campus.

The college’s hostel is not inside the campus as one hostel was getting ready and from what I heard it was going to be the girls hostel. To be fair, even the outsiders who joined NSHM were from Bengal as I didn’t have a metropolitan crowd in my class. When I used to talk with my friends who went to colleges like NM, or XLRI, they were like they had students from all places in India. So, hopefully one day students of NSHM too might say this but as of now, I don’t see a great demand for hostels, at least from the MBA department.

NSHM infrastructure was not like that; nobody can match it as it was just like another college in the city. Yes, the campus is big enough as there are many departments in the college and all the respective departments have been allotted their own buildings. Auxiliary library, central library, a canteen, a café, and sports facilities were all there. Even the conference halls, discussions rooms, and auditorium were amazing as we had spent a fair chunk of our time there.

One has to be at the campus with some control because a lot of eyes were on us. Bengal is known for fights for no reasons and in colleges we do hear that this or that happened. At NSHM, nothing like that happened as in my two years, I never saw a fight where students have had arm wrestle with each other. So, the campus life here was more like an area where you can have fun with your friends, sipping coffees and having chats on all the stupid stuffs.
