The college was never in a hurry to make us the engineers that can take on the world. Academic wise the college has done exceedingly well as the course was more or less the same that IITs has. I wish the placements were at least half of that and that is where the only concern was as otherwise I can’t see a single flaw that RCoE has. What an outstanding performance by RCOE as Roorkee College of Engineering is the college that one should look if they are from Uttarakhand and have missed out on IITs. If ever there was a man of the match for academics, trust me IIT Roorkee and RCE Roorkee would have joined hands there because a lot of events happened combinedly and those students were happy with how education takes place at RCoE. So, there’s no one else to judge as both the colleges had some similarities.

The management and the faculties took time initially to get the education going as all the students were raw and 12th is not an abbreviation of engineering studies so a gist on what engineering is all about is how the academics began. As soon as the time passed by the academics became more and more fluent and it picked the much needed pace too. Once, we finished the tree years, I was like the college might go down by a couple of gears but instead the opposite of that happened as that defines the character of a great college like RCOE. In final year, students were sent for internships, a month long placement training along with classes that were simultaneously on. The college always likes to think in aggressive manner and really finished off the academics in style.

To keep faculties on for few moments, who in a way gets the final award for taking the academics of RCOE to that level. They made sure that education is always on top and also in control. The faculties carried all the things that they have done in their careers from IITs to PhD, they brought every array of knowledge and skills that they had to RCOE campus. Just the maturity that the faculties have shown and the awareness of how students should be taught certain things. The faculties took the academics in a controlled way and especially I would like to call upon the way they maintained terms with the students. With faculties students are always susceptible but not at RCOE as one can befriend them over a cup of tea.

Except for the placements everything looked fine because in 2016, CS was not the only heartthrob and therefore the placements were mixed. Students had placements while some didn’t and the strength of CS wasn’t that huge as it is today in most of the colleges. They got us trained absolutely right but the number of companies that came to the campus came with very little slots to fill. So, placements were not in front of square but still those who managed to get placed have been doing well as training wise, the college left nothing astute.

The Bhawans of RCOE were great but didn’t had the required rooms as putting the students in hostel was not possible as the capacity which was close to 1200 for boys still was less as not just the engineering the college offers many other courses too. So, the college possibly wasn’t informed about the demand and therefore they have left it on students to take a PG nearby but mind you the college is on Delhi Haridwar highway and there are no PGs in the vicinity. So, at the time when people have started looking at RCOE as a potential college, the college should do something to have at least two more Bhawans with a capacity of 500-600 students each.

The campus is big but still lacks in facilities like the mess was so crowded that even the hostel students used to go out to feed themselves. One canteen in a campus that beholds over 6000 students was never going to be enough and therefore one has to look at the college at 1 pm as all students rushes towards the city for their meals. The auditorium again was small and therefore the stage was built in front of the main building and all the main events happened there. So, the open spaces that the college has which they used for playgrounds, the college will have to put them to use some other way as the facilities were alright but are not enough.

As soon as one looked nervous at the campus the seniors or the others would confront them and that was the beauty of RCOE campus. So, the relation between the students among themselves was the bedrock of the campus life at RCOE.
