International Management Institute PGDM Review By Mohit Pal

IMI Kolkata is a good college and mind you they have their own entrance too. The top scores of entrances go to IMI Delhi as that is a four-decade old institute while International Management Institute Kolkata is proportionally new. When it comes to education, the college is a dangerous outfit because the studies here are no less than any top B-Schools. The course is vast and plus we had to manage various other things at the college from events, to seminars, to workshops. Things were endless and time was limited as I still couldn’t figure out how my two years at IMI gone by. IMI has always taught us one thing and that is to play a situation out as many virtual situations were thrown on us and we had to find answers for that. There were many active clubs and perhaps the only source of unwinding because even though it was a residential campus, we had no rest available for us even after coming back from the classes spending 7-8 hours daily.

Education here starts from the number 140 because 100 percent was not enough to get through as to pass out from here one will have to give at least 140%. Students who gave 200% saw rewards coming their way in form of scholarships and placements. So overall if I look at the academic performance of the college, it was more than my imaginations as I was used to classes getting cancelled sitting at the serene lands of the campus during classes but at IMI it was not possible. Attendance is mandatory but it’s not that student can’t get away with lesser attendance bit not attending the classes was never a choice here.

In terms of being the best thing about the college, faculties definitely were an inch higher than any other aspect of the college. The faculties were award winning teachers and they had a different swag about them. One noticeable thing was that they were young from heart as most of the professors were into their 40s but with students, they would become 20s. The faculties were not just confident but had a point to prove as most of them had a delightful job but they have quit and joined the college to teach the students. They didn’t just contributed with the teaching but also with placements as training cell had many faculties in them who took soft skill classes. So, they were either way as you can use them both ways or even if you get one side of theirs that would have been enough to become successful.

IMI Kolkata Placements were ok types as going forward if the placements are not sorted nobody will pay such huge fees and end up rubbing shoes to get a farfetched job. The balance between academics and placements was a mismatch because education wise students did all that was asked for but still when it came to placements only 70% of the students had it. The average placements published on their ads is not true as I have been in the thick of things and can safely say that average placements were in the range of 5 lakhs if not less.

I was in awe of previous hostel and I wish I knew an adjective that was a shade better than that because I had no choice but to stay at the hostel and Oh My Lord!! IMI Kolkata hostel rooms along with balconies giving one of the best views as the college is in one of the busiest areas of the town. The food was good as I thought I might have to search for options outside the campus but hostel food was such that even if we were out for a movie or anything, we used to have our meals at the hostel.

The cushion of being a large college was missing but the 3 acre campus was the shining light in the shiniest areas of the city. From college buildings to hostel buildings, one just use to stare at our college and say that wish we were a part of IMI. It envied many by its looks and it’s not that only the buildings were impressive. What’s inside it was even more inspiring as the discussion’s rooms, auditoriums, and the financial lab were so realistically developed that one has to leave that with a very heavy heart.

The best part is that most events or the seminars that happened at the college were a part of curriculum. So, it was more of a symbiotic thing between the college and the students as students used to get bored there and the management wanted students to come in numbers so that they can interact with the guest. In return the students who attends most private lectures or seminars was taken care of during the internals. So, the life was great as we did things we didn’t want to and then we also did things that we always wanted to.
