IIT Tirupati: Admission Process and Eligibility

IIT Tirupati is situated near Yerpedu, which is around 30 KM from the main city of Tirupati. It has a great campus compared to other 3rd generation campuses, as it is filled with greenery, offering a serene learning environment. With mountains on one side and proper facilities for students, the experience in this institute is exceptional. In the beginning, you may feel that it is challenging to find many things nearby since it is quite far from the main city, but you will eventually find your way and form a great group of friends. This institute is quiet and perfect for studious students. Since this is a 3rd generation IIT, the growth speed may not match that of the 1st or 2nd generation ones, but in the future, it will undoubtedly be excellent. Students here are focused on various domains, and we have clubs for all specific interests. The institute is also working towards creating the perfect environment for us. Additionally, as the student strength is less compared to other generation, you will have exposure to many domains and great opportunities to explore different things.

I have enrolled in Electrical Engineering. As I mentioned earlier, it aligns with my interests. As you know, to get into any IIT, you have to clear JEE Main and JEE Advanced exams, and based on your JEE Advanced scorecard, you can pursue a Bachelor's degree in IITs. To get into a particular IIT and branch, it depends on the students selected for IIT and their preferences, but for a general idea, you can refer to past year results. To get into IIT Tirupati’s Electrical Engineering branch, you need to have a rank less than 8500 (General category). Again, it totally depends on the current selected students for your year. The admission process is handled by JoSAA, which manages the admission process for all institutions. In my branch, we have Test-01, Test-02, and an End Semester exam for a particular course in each semester. Again, exams for a particular course depend on the professor. the earlier one is general. Academic preparation makes you mentally strong, as all your classmates are good too, and preparing with them makes you smarter. The courses offered here are great, as they train you to solve practical problems.

For B.Tech and General category students, the fee structure for each semester is as follows: it is divided into two parts: one is the institute fee and the other is the student affairs fee. Combined, it is around 1.4 Lakh per semester. The student affairs fee can vary depending on mess charges. For students from different categories, the fee is less than the above mentioned amount. Scholarships are also available in the institute.

In Electrical Engineering branch, the faculty members are excellent. For every domain, each faculty member has great knowledge. Based on your interests, you can even work under them on projects. This enhances the knowledge of students and creates many opportunities for them. The method of teaching depends on the professor; some prefer chalkboards, while others use projectors with a pen/ink system. Each course includes tutorials, which are helpful for problem solving. As this is a 3rd Generation IIT, the teacher to student ratio is great. In our branch, we have student strength of 65, whereas in the top IITs, the intake is much higher. Every professor is very good natured, approachable, and always willing to provide guidance in your domain.

In terms of infrastructure, we have a few academic buildings and a lecture hall complex for all classes, along with a library that houses books ranging from academics to various domains of knowledge. The campus spans around 530 acres and, as mentioned earlier, is located near Yerpedu, approximately 30 KM from Tirupati. All classrooms are air-conditioned. The buildings are designed to accommodate the needs of physically disabled students. In addition to these facilities, we have canteens apart from the mess and shops for general necessities where you can find all the essential items. The sports facilities are excellent, with grounds and courts available for various games. Coaches are also assigned to different sports to ensure proper training. Gyms are also available for fitness enthusiasts. The healthcare system on campus is commendable, with a pharmacy and institute doctors available to address any health concerns. For transportation within the campus, you can use bicycles or walk. Security guards are stationed at various locations to ensure the safety of the campus. My favorite places on the campus include the view from my hostel, where the mountains look perfect, especially during the rainy season. The roundabout circle is also a good place.

My campus life is great. The institute is not very crowded, but we currently have a capacity of around 1,600 students. There are many clubs in the institute, covering various domains such as Coding, Automobile, Astronomy, Technology, and for Cultural activities like Dance, Music, Arts, etc. We also have entrepreneurship clubs, and for students' well-being, there is a Guidance and Career Counseling Club. I am part of a few clubs, including some in the tech domain. Every month or during festivals, we have extracurricular activities organized either by clubs or by the institute, such as competitions, sessions, etc. For fests or events, we have an annual fest called ‘Tirutsava’. In addition, we have tech events called ‘Tachyon’, intra-sports events related to sports, intra-cultural events related to cultural activities, and many more events organized by various clubs. My experience has been great. The institute offers a perfect mixture of a studious environment and an enjoyable environment, making it truly wonderful.
