GEC Sreekrishnapuram

Overall Rating
GEC Sreekrishnapuram is a decent college with affordable fees as it is purely a government run institution. I have very mixed feelings about my journey in this college. In my personal opinion and from my personal experience, I don't think the campus provides much exposure and it needs to be improved in that field. I have a problem with the location of the college as it is located far from the city.
 

Academics Rating
I am pursuing information technology here. The course curriculum is satisfactory. IT is an emerging field today and that was my reason to choose this course. Students are allotted GEC on the basis of the rank they secure in the KEAM entrance examination. The admission process involves three allotment phases. Internal exams are held frequently (twice) and is followed by the externals. Curriculum comes under KTU. The schedules are a bit hectic to be honest as it is trying to cope up with the lag happened due to Covid. Difficulty levels of exams are quite moderate.
Fees are semester based. It is around Rs.8,000/- and it varies with each semester. College charges some admission fees which is pretty affordable too. Students with poor financial background has access to many scholarships like the Eegrantz, Pragati etc. Pragati is around Rs.50,000/- per annum I guess. There is also category based cutoff too.
 

Faculty Rating
The faculties in my department are kind of strong but very responsible. They are very knowledgeable, experienced and supportive. Their way of teaching varies from teacher to teacher but a common way is using PPTs. which will be shared to us later. The faculties are very helpful and cooperative. Students are given a safe space for their opinions and ideas which makes the environment satisfactory. All the teachers are very keen for the success of every student.
 

Placement Rating
I'm currently in my second year so do not have knowledge about the placement ratios. There is an active placement cell but I don't know the effectiveness of them. Students from my department get placed pretty decently.
 

Hostel Rating
The college offers hostel facilities but there are only a limited number of seats. Admission in the college hostel is based on some reservations. This limited availability is overcome by many private hostels. There are many private hostels and home-stays around the campus. They are pretty close to the college and offer quality stay at affordable price. The monthly fee is around Rs.4,500/- for girl’s and Rs.5,500/- for boy’s. Girl’s hostels have strict curfew.
 

Infrastructure Rating
This is a part of college which needs improvement. Personally, I am not a big fan of my college's infrastructure. If you have big expectations about campus get ready to be disappointed. College has a good central library and there are department libraries as well. The college canteen is very small to provide for the whole college. College offers transportation facilities for day scholars which is effective. All the necessary facilities are available but it is not upto the mark (personally).
 

Campus Rating
My journey at GEC is yet to be completed but till now it was not satisfactory. I had big expectations and it couldn't meet them. There are many active clubs in the college like IEEE, GDSC etc. Despite being a government college, there are not many fests held here. Technical fest is held every 2 years. Arts fest named Daksha happens every year in March. It gives opportunity to the students to showcase their talents.

My overall experience is really good since the College and the infrastructure is good and we could experience different types of things other than studying. The reason why I chose this is because I'm from Palakkad and there is no better option than this College.
