GEC Palakkad: Words With Honesty

Overall Rating
Government Engineering College, Palakkad was quite fun and meaningful. My overall experience is really good since the College and the infrastructure is good and we could experience different types of things other than studying. The reason why I chose this is because I'm from Palakkad and there is no better option than this College. The main difference I found is the infrastructure and how it is located in the middle of the city and still feels so calm inside.
 

Academics Rating
I have completed my B.Sc in Chemistry. To get enrolled, you have to be a Science student at your secondary level of school. Then you have to score really good marks at the final exams and then you can apply through Calicut application portal since this College is under Calicut University. They will choose you according to your mark and category. Then there will be different fees for different categories. Exams are semester wise which is 6 months per semester. Academic preparation is all in your hand, you have to prepare by yourself, faculties sometimes helps and sometimes not.
Fees structure is semester wise and there will be only exam fees if you have Scholarships because it covers rest of the fees. Tuition fees will be paid by Scholarships and there will be admission fees that will vary according to the category of students which could be around Rs. 10,000/-.
 

Faculty Rating
Faculty members at Government Engineering College, Palakkad are highly educated. They are well trained and they help the students really well. Their method of teaching differs from subject to subject because for Maths related subjects they use whiteboard or blackboard but for theory subjects they use their PPTs. All facilities are really good at problem solving. Teacher student ratio is 1:30. Some faculties are very approachable, but some are reserved.
 

Placement Rating
There is an active Placement Cell at GEC Palakkad, but I don’t have much idea about it.
 

Hostel Rating
Yes, the College offers hostel facilities to the students.
 

Infrastructure Rating
What I love the most about the campus is its infrastructure. The campus was built in 1999, so it has a vintage vibe. It's a really good campus and it's really big. Classrooms have seating for more than 60 students but there will not be that much students in one class. A beautiful and calm library is there but it doesn't have all the academic books we still need to buy some from outside. Labs are good. There is a conference hall where we have our seminar. There is a huge auditorium too. Lots of performances happens in that auditorium every week.
 

Campus Rating
Overall campus experience is really good. I have enjoyed my College life. There are many clubs in the campus like Music Club, Dance Club, etc. I'm part of the Drama Club. Collage organises sports and other activities for students but dance and music is organised by students themselves. There are a lot of events and fests at College that are held every week. There is an annual fest conducted at College too.
