Venky College's Fee Structure and Scholarships

I chose Venky because of its overall reputation and academic excellence in Delhi University. Venky lives up to its hype and expectations of being a top college. The education program here allows you to study more than just your major. The programs exceed the binds of education, the college has exceptional sports and extracurricular activities which makes the experience more exhilarating and exciting. The crowd has air of sophistication to it. The college opens your world to so many opportunities that really helps one put their career in a clear perspective.

I’m studying BA (Hons) English. I’m currently in my second year and the course has honed my skills of critical thinking, analysis, research, communication and writing. This course brings you to a deep perspective towards every novel you study. We normally have 3 core papers which cater to different generations of literature and have multiple classics of the same. The professors help one study the novel from other perspectives and open their mind to various interpretations. The admission process to secure a seat in this course very easy. I had to give CUET and then based upon my cut off I was asked to fill the preference list. The college normally doesn’t put a lot of examination stress. There are only two semesters in each year and each semester has an end semester exam.

Venky is a government run college so the fee is pretty inexpensive. The academic fees which includes all variable cost for one year is Rs.17,990/-. The fee has to be paid during the start of the academic year to secure or continue your admission and course. However this fee doesn’t include the examination fees. That fee has to be paid when the examination form rolls out and the amount for the same differs from person to person. However the amount doesn’t exceed more than Rs.2,000/-. The college also offers scholarship and the form for the same rolls out in January. One has to submit their 12th grade mark sheet, affidavit and family’s income proof. The scholarship gives up-to 100% fees waiver.

The teachers in my course have great skill sets and knowledge about the course. Most of them have Ph.D and research degrees in the same. They’ve an experience of teaching for more than 10 years and their command on the subject and the course is commendable. They normally use blackboards and smart boards to teach. They involve multiple methods like book review, movie screening, open book discussions which tickles a person’s mind. One batch has around 60 students. The teachers are pretty friendly and understanding, you can easily confide in them. They’re pretty understanding with assignments and exams and help us by providing extra material to get a better understanding.

The placement cell of the college is pretty commendable at what they do. Many well established companies like Bain, EY, Deloitte, PWC, Zomato, Bajaj, Nation with Namo, De Shaw etc., come for placements and internships. Each company takes minimum 5 students for the same. The placement and internship rate is pretty high for the college. The package starts from Rs.5.00 lakh and the highest package was about Rs.20.00 lakh last year. Apart from that the cell also offers an annual internship fair where more than 200 companies come to hire students for various paid internships.

The college offers a hostel facility to out of station students. The annual fee for the same is about Rs.1.00 lakh. A student has to maintain 75% attendance to stay in the hostel. The curfew time is of 8pm. The girls and the boys hostel is separate and each hostel has about 50-60 rooms. A person can opt for a single room, double share or triple sharing as well. The cost for each differs. The food of mess is pretty average and gets monotonous after a while. There isn’t enough food variety and sometimes it tastes stale. Personally my experience in the hostel has been pretty average. The life is not as glamorous as it seems. There administration is pretty strict and doesn’t make any exceptions for anyone. It is a proper gated hostel so there isn’t a security issue.

The infrastructure of the college does seem pretty old but it still does a fine job in delivering its aesthetic. There are 3 academic blocks- old block, science block and new block. Classes for most of the humanities courses and the commerce courses are held in old block which has 3 floors. There is no lift. The staircase stays pretty crowded as a result. The new block and science block is for various science and electronics courses. They’re fairly new and have more smart boards and lifts as well. They also have multiple research labs. The library is located in the old block. It has a sitting area on the first floor and it is fully air conditioned. Apart from that the college has a pretty big canteen offering a wide sitting area for students. There is also a Maggi point which offers a lot of quick and munching food and beverages. The college has multiple gardens and grounds which allow us to happily sun bathe in warm winter afternoons. The college is 100 steps away from the nearest metro station so commuting is pretty easy. It’s barely a 2 minute walk.

My campus life in Venky has been pretty good. There are multiple clubs which helps fresher’s to indulge and socialise. The college has various extracurricular activities and societies like drama, theatre, film making, debating, singing, dancing, reading, writing etc. These societies also compete with other colleges on a broader level which inculcates competitive spirit and perfection for the same. Some of these competitions are also held out station so many societies make a trip out of it. Apart from that various departments have their own departmental societies as well. Each society has their own annual event which requires months of hard work for its success. The annual event of the college is ‘Nexus’ which is a pretty grand event. It is very famous in Delhi University. It is a 3 day event which is concluded by a star night. So far Mohit Chauhan has been a part of this event twice. The star night is exhilarating and pretty exciting for everyone. Overall, Venky has been a great experience for me and the impact it has had on me is something that I’ll never forget.
