Punjabi University BBA Review By Vikas Nagar

Questioning an institute which is 6 decades old and has produced some gems is not fair but what I have been through or seen was not good either. Patiala is no more a town that is famous for its historical forts or worship places. Today, it has some of the best colleges and universities in Thapar and Chitkara University Rajpura. Punjabi University was blown out of proportion as they provide nice concession and fees are comparatively quite low be it the university fees or the hostel fees. The scheduling was the worst as the exams took ages to complete and the results took even longer. The more you stay at a place you have better understanding of that place and staying at the hostel gave me enough reasons to forget Punjabi University Patiala as trust me the university has made a meal of itself by not utilising the university legacy to full capacity. So, from my point of view when I see an overall perspective, it was indeed not worth and for those who can’t afford it’s understandable that they can’t go to private universities like Chitkara or the other. For those who can, it’s worth paying bucks because the kind of facilities and placements or the career guidance that they provide is worth the money.

Academics here was exposed because the fees is less but they purposely failed the students to have that re-examination fees. I am not saying this because I have been a victim of it but it has happened to many and some of them have topped the exams in their academic career. The attendance are so every compulsory here and on practical days, our timings which were from 8.45 to 1 on normal days were stretched to 5 pm. Sometimes it was actually unnecessary because for workshops it was done batch and even though it wasn’t our batch’s turn, we had to be at the college till 5 pm for no reasons. If I write more, I will complain more so let’s cut the crap of academics here.

Faculties were capable of showing or teaching us the finer things of life but they had their tasks cut-out. The number of faculties were high at Punjabi University as along with a permanent faculty one associate faculty too was assigned who sometimes too few topics. They also knew that the university is going nowhere so they started giving us career counseling from the 1st year and honestly it were there efforts that led students to a better future.

Hardly any company from private sector came for placements and the PSU companies that came had no intentions in buying our CVs. They still interviewed us, had fun with us and at the end said thank you very much. Still some students still found their way to get placed so I won’t blame the placement’s part entirely. The overall picture from my perspective may not be good but those who had placements may have other ideas but I am not buying any of those as most students remained unplaced.

Punjabi University Hostel Fees was so low in which we can’t buy a month’s food, we were provided hostel for a year. The mess fees was extra but still less and I can debate on the kind of rooms and facilities but food part can’t be questioned. The best of Dal was served and it had variety too as the menu was not repeated for the course of the week. So, we had variety for a week and then the same things kept happening but there’s no harm in having normal food as we always had the option of going to our favorite joints and eat whatever we want.

After LPU, I think, Punjabi University campus is the second largest campus in terms of area. The university main block looked like monument of ancient times. Our national flag was held high above the admin block all around the year. The library and academic blocks have been re-built and they are amazing. A running track of international standard has been built at the campus. Out of all the facilities that were there at the campus one that needs maximum praise is the health care centre of the university. It was the grandest of grand facility and luckily for students and staff, it was free too. The second-best facility at the campus was the library as one will have to search with binoculars to find such a grand and modern library. So, the list of facilities will not end because the campus was such that at least it was not short on facilities.

When things tend to against in many ways, even the best of facilities or friends doesn’t give the comfort that one long for. So, for me it was like finish the graduation and get over because I knew I will have no future with a BBA degree from here. Well, the celebrations and all were plenty though and students were free to be a part of any event they wanted.
