I had to take one year drop as I wanted able placements and for that to happen, IITs and NITs are must. I tried my level best to be at any of the IITs but never mind, I was quite happy with NITK too. Close to my place and a residential campus that was good enough for students to have a time of their life, I don’t think I could have argued on any of the things that university has offered to us in terms of academics, placements, or the campus life. Everything that NITK does have a special element attached to it as the college has taken some calculative risks. In the process what has happened is that University has got away with much more than what others have got. The answer to that it that NITK executes it better than anyone else as in engineering colleges there a lot of other things other than studies. That’s how engineering colleges in India operates and NITK was no different. There were over 30 odd clubs and being a part of a couple of them and contributing gave me joy that nothing else have thus far.

Academics here were about taking chances because, sometimes, the portions will remain unfinished and students have to do unfinished business on their own. The thing was that NITK has made us confident about our own abilities. This was something which was quite evident about NIT Kurukshetra. The management or the faculty can throw us in the mud or wherever they want but we were taught how to make our way out of that. The academics were was not about playing to the course but to the practicality of it. Education never looked odd here because it was on right from the word go and remained on till the last class that I attended.

The faculties were both ground and sky as even after their experience and degrees they stayed on the ground and put the student’s interest always on sky. The faculties here had complete control or should I say they were completely meditated and knew exactly what they were up to. There was no grasping with the situation from their like if the exams are coming, they will just up the portions for the sake of it. Yes, they advised us to do a lot of self-studies and come up with new ideas every now and then. So, I will have to call them literally flawless.

If a year drop is equivalent to getting placed in top India’s IT company, I would take that any day. Placements here looked in complete command as they were wrapped up in 30 days during the beginning of final semester. They started off with a bang and ended too with a bang. I don’t know the words but placements were at its pomp. So, the greatness of NIT Kurukshetra placements can be judged by the number of students that were placed and the kind of placements that were done at NITK. Both were absolute top-class as there was no period at the university, where we ever felt insecurity of not finding ourselves a job.

Barring a few hostels, all NIT Kurukshetra hostels had single rooms and for PG students there were just a single bed rooms provided at Mega Boys Hostel or Jagdishwar Bhawan. The hostel life was so great that after evening when we came to the hostel, we didn’t know how long are going to stay awake and that’s what put you at the edge of your seats. I was very lucky to be a part of hostel life at NITK because it offered me everything that I could have asked for.

NIT Kurukshetra campus is around 300 acres and has one main gate along with three others. A total of 14-15 departmental blocks as each department had their own blocks. The defining area of the campus was the NITK Market that had a post office and a bank, a senate hall, and the guest house of the institute. One of the areas where I wish could spend more time was the students activity centre. There was a huge health centre at the campus along with some of the best sporting facilities to keep students healthy. The rare facility in that was the big swimming pool as it is hard to find a swimming pool in most college campuses. Since, students were allowed to keep their vehicles because the college is too far from the main city; they were two huge parking areas.

I have never engaged myself in social activities but the event Techspardha allowed us to get engaged with many social activities. From tree plantations to distributing food packets, we did all as a part of NITK initiatives. Rather than getting myself engaged with events that were glamorous, I decided to be a human and do my bit for that as party can wait.
