Thapar University Patiala: A Premier Engineering Institute with Excellent Placements

Overall, Thapar University offers many opportunities in each and every aspect, whether it is technical, cultural, and social. Good interaction between seniors and juniors with a healthy relationship makes progress of the students or university much easier as compared to other universities. Good placement ratios and top class academic curriculum brings university into one of the premier engineering institutes among the country. This is the overall review of the university.

I chose course B.Tech in Computer Engineering since it is one of the leading and oldest branch since the university is established. I scored 95 percentile in JEE Main and therefore got into the university with leading branch of the university. Entry requirements are according to the All India Rank list in JEE Main and by the score of 10+2 boards with cumulative PCM percentage. Frequency of exam and the evaluation process is same for first year of all the branches. The academics does not only prepare for pen paper based exams but also for the challenges ahead in personals life.

There are different fee structures for different branches but it roughly makes it Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 3,00,000 for four years including hostel and mess fee. One can get rebate through various scholarship programs, which are based on a student's academic performances (almost 100% fee can get rebate for an outstanding academic performance and thereafter with different slabs).

Faculties are very well equipped and qualified and updated as per the latest engineering curriculum and each one have qualified the minimum requirement of masters and doctorate in their particular field. Methods of teaching include using PPTs along with tutorials on black and whiteboards. Regular assignments and tutorials make a student completely prepared for the exams in classes itself and therefore there's a sufficient time left for upskilling themselves .Teacher to student ration is about 40-50:1.

Yes, the placement cell is present which is equipped with the senior most faculties who help the students with the healthy discussions on the scope and demand of the industry that make it easier for the students easier to get selected at decent packages where the average package of computer branches roam around 12 to 13 LPA and 10.5 to 11.5 LPA for non computer branches. Renowned companies that visit for the campus placements include IBM , Infosys, Amazon, JP Morgan, CISCO, Zomato, Deloitte, etc.

There are approximately 25+ hostels (separate for boys and girls) inside the campus boundaries. Mess food is at its best that could be provided with very good hygiene where the caterer of the messes is Sodexo that is known for its hygiene and management. Hostel rules are like the last entry time into the hostels is 8:30 PM and last leave time is 8:00 PM. Annual charges are different for every hostel for different sharing and accommodations and range within Rs. 40,000 to Rs.50,000 per semester along with Rs. 24,000 as a mess fee.

There are more than 15 different blocks for different subjects and branches. Along with classes, the labs are very well equipped with the lab instructors themselves pursuing PhD from the university itself. The institute hosts one of the premium and largest libraries among the country with different seminar halls for faculties and the students. The auditorium can host about 200+ people at a time. Sports faculties are world class and are growing with the initialization of the construction of the new grounds and all sports facilities can be enjoyed like badminton, cricket, football, athletics(synthetic track), basketball, lawn tennis, table tennis, volleyball, and swimming as a last. The best facility of the infrastructure that one could enjoy and I personally feel is our lovely "Nava Nalanda Library”.

Overall campus life that I could feel in the very first year is amazing. There is a healthy competition among the students and a very good tuning is present between boys and girls that make it a very joyful place to study and enjoy the university life at. Regular sports events, hackathons, and workshops organized by different societies, fests, and cultural programs are organized into the premises very often. If I have to describe the university campus life in one word. Then it would be definitely ‘Fabulous’.
