NIT Nagpur: A Premier Engineering Institute with a Strong Mechanical Program

The overall college is really great. Major focus of college is towards academics and placements which is a good thing for an engineer. The college has a vast campus of over 215 acres so there's a lot to explore in the college. The professors here are a lot experienced and teach really great. Since it is a National institution a student gets a great outreach. The college has a great alumni network. For mechanical in particular this college would be a really great option I chose VNIT because Nagpur is my hometown and also my future aim is UPSC so I wanted just a UG degree hence it wasn't a much concern for me to choose a college The sports facilities are really great for badminton there are international mats then for other sports also there are really good things available.

The institute is really focused towards academics and placements. Entry in this institute is through JEE Main. I got 98.32% and The admission process is through JOSAA. The academic structure is that we have 2 exams per semester: the mid-sem and the end-sem. The mid-sem comprises of 30 marks, the end-sem comprises of 50 marks, and 20 marks are of internal which makes up 100. Accordingly, we get grades and CG. The curriculum is really great.

Total fee is Rs. 1,35,450 in which tuition fee is Rs. 1,25,000, Exam fee is Rs. 1,000, Registration fee is Rs. 500, Library fee is Rs. 750, Student activity fee is Rs. 1250, Sports fee is Rs. 2,500 Internet fee is Rs. 750, T&P fee is Rs. 400, and Development fee is Rs. 3,000.

The faculty would depend from person to person. According to me, some faculties out here are very good. Some are moderate, and some do not teach even. The method of teaching everyone follows is writing on the blackboard and explain is in detail. The student to teacher ratio is around 20:1. My personal experience with almost all facilities has been average. Some it has been very good. Overall professors are great because they help in every possible aspect.

The campus placements are great. In 2024, Mechanical branch got almost 100% placements. Even this year 50% students in Mechanical branch been placed until now. Highest package offered was 64 LPA, median was 12 LPA, and average was 11 LPA. Almost all the renowned companies visit the institute. There is a training and placement cell in every department, which helps with placement and to get internships either. Overall, the institute has great placement rate.

VNIT Nagpur has good hostel facilities. There are double and triple sharing rooms. Almost 600 to 700 students are in the boy’s hostel for first year and almost 250-300 girls in the girl’s hostel. The mess food is average. The total hostel fee is Rs. 65,000 per year. In first year there is an in-time of 9 PM for both boys and girls for second year onwards no in time for boys and 10:30 PM for girls but no one is allowed to go outside campus after 10:30 PM.

The infrastructure is really great. It is spread over 215 acres. We have department building admin block, new academic building, classroom complex, sports complex, hostels, auditorium, library, etc. The campus is located in the centre of the city Nagpur. In first year, the classes are held in the classroom complex and from second year onwards, they are held in the respective departments. All the major events are held in the auditorium. My favorite thing would be the sports complex because there we have access to all sports and they provide quality material also the library is really great. Every student has an access to all books available. There is a canteen, which has a good quality food, and also the day scholars can eat their tiffin there.

My overall campus life is going really good. The crowd of VNIT Nagpur is fantastic. Seniors are really supportive in every aspect possible. we also have student mentors which comes under the student mentorship program. There are various clubs. I am a part of a debating club. Octaves is the music club, velocity is car club, IV labs is all about robotics, & coding, etc. are few notable clubs. there are many events such as Axis Techfest, Aarohi Cultural Fest, Consortium Annual Event Of E-cell, Institute Gathering, Department Gathering, Mech Days, Ganesh Chaturthi, etc. My personal experience has been really great with the institute.
