B.Sc at Aligarh Muslim University

Aligarh Muslim University is one of the best government universities in India. Pursuing B.Sc from here was one the best decisions that I ever took. Professors, departments, and co-curricular activities made me choose this university. The campus is very peaceful. There is greenery all around, and quite safe for females. Sports facilities are also top notch and food in the mess is of very good quality and very affordable as well.

My main reason for choosing B.Sc in Chemistry was that Chemistry is my favorite subject and I always wanted to become a professor so for that, B.Sc is a perfect course. The admission process was quite easy for the course. I had to give an entrance exam, which was organized by AMU. The average cutoff for clearing the exam was 50 marks out of 100. You can apply for the admission test by submitting the form. The eligibility to give this entrance exam is that you should be 12th pass with first division. The entrance test is usually taken in the month of April. The semester exams are also held regularly and one should have a good preparation and knowledge of the subject to pass the exam.

This university is one the cheapest one to study in India with annual college fee of approximately Rs. 4,000 approximately. If you opt for hostel, then it will be approximately Rs. 6,000. There are also various government scholarships available, which you can avail. There is a scholarship provided by AMU itself for economically weaker students.

The faculty members of my department are also very qualified and are very cooperative. Students as well as faculty members all are from different parts of India. Most of the faculty members are pass outs of AMU itself and some are from IIT, BITS, JMI, and various famous universities. Their most common method of teaching are through blackboards and PPTs. Problem solving ability of the faculty is also very good and almost all of them are very cooperative and ready to help therefore students and teachers share a very healthy bond.

Students of the final year are eligible for campus placements. Well known companies visit our campus for placement purposes like Wipro, Amazon, Havel’s, etc. All the placement opportunities are provided by TPO to the students. Around 70% students get placements every year. My plan after pursuing B.Sc is to get admission in M.Sc and then PhD, as I want to become a professor.

There are around 80 hostels for students and each hostel has around 100 rooms so it's quite comfortable for fresher students to be allotted in a hostel. The food quality in Mess is also very good and is very affordable. My personal experience was very good as I stayed at a hostel for 3 years and was fully satisfied with the hostel facilities, mess, and cleanliness of the hostel. Hostels are open 24’7 for male students pursuing Bachelor, Masters, or equivalent.

One of the most attractive thing about this university is its vintage infrastructure as most of the buildings are from British era and give a very aesthetic look to the campus. The classrooms are also very spacious and well maintained. The university also has the worldwide famous Maulana Azad Library, which has a great collection of books. All sports are available in the campus including outdoor games like cricket, football, etc. and indoor games like badminton, table tennis, etc. My favorite thing about my campus infrastructure is its classic look.

The annual fest is held by different departments during different times, which start, from the month of February and goes on until March. Cultural education centre is also here for extracurricular activities where students can engage in music, singing, debating, drama, etc. There are many social groups and clubs run by students, one such is AMU Journal where all the updates regarding the campus are given.
