Student's Experience at Mithibai College: Facilities, Faculty, & More

The college has a very good infrastructure, due to which it ranks among the top college in Mumbai for Commerce. The college has successfully provided a sound environment at lower fees compared to other colleges. The favorite thing about this college is its canteen, as no college in Mumbai has three canteens located in its premises. The non-teaching staff of the college is also supportive. As the college is autonomous, the curriculum is slightly different from the University curriculum. It has new subjects like Entrepreneurship Management, Environmental studies etc.

I had enrolled for Bachelor of Commerce Program after it was granted autonomous status by the University grants Commission for gaining exposure in Accounting, Finance And Taxation. The cutoff for Bachelor of Commerce is generally low for in-house students. There are total 6 Semesters in the course along with 25 mark internals. The curriculum is aligned with industry requirement as it contains practical subjects like Computer Applications, in which we get exposure to Microsoft Office Application like excel, word etc. The admission process of the college is generally 1 day in case of in-house students.

The fee of first year is Rs. 6,000. The next year is Rs. 7,500 and for third year, it is Rs. 8,500; inclusive of tuition fees, library fees, gymkhana fees, ID card fees etc.

The faculties of Mithibai are quite experienced and some faculties are co-authors of books. They are well qualified and some faculties have professional degree like Chartered Accountant, LLB, etc. The method of teaching is through PowerPoint presentations prepared by them, informative videos, etc. Each classroom is equipped with a projector. The experience with the faculties is nice, as they provide knowledge by giving real life examples and case studies, which helps us to understand complex concepts in better manner. I never had any issues with the faculties, as they were available during the college hours in case of some doubts or queries. The college has attendance criteria of 75%, which has to be maintained otherwise they would debarred the students.

The college has a dedicated placement cell. It helps the student to gain skills like cracking the interview, preparing a resume. During my tenure 4 big accounting, Firms like Deloitte, KPMG, PwC, and EY used to Come for campus placements.

Mithibai has a very good infrastructure as all the classrooms are air-conditioned and equipped with projectors. Each classroom has the average capacity of 100 students. The college also has a very good library on the ground floor where all the books were available to be rented. The college has a gymkhana containing table tennis, chess and carom boards. The college has a good computer Lab too. In-house printout and Xerox office is there, where we could print our notes and take a copy of them at concessional rate. The college has good security system as no student was allowed to enter college without an ID card. The college had a good canteen which offered a range of delicious cuisines at a reasonable price. There were 3 canteens in the college.

The college has majority students pursuing Chartered Accountancy, Company secretary, CMA etc. Hence; the discipline was very well maintained. The college has yearly fest like Kshitij, Colossuem, and Umang, where various actors, singers and celebrities come for their promotion. The college also has various cells like Mithibai Entrepreneurship Cell, DLLE, etc. Overall, the campus life is satisfactory, but due to attendance requirements, students preparing for CA get less to be part of these activities and fests.
