Campus Culture of Lady Irwin College New Delhi: Events, Activities, and More

Choosing Lady Irwin College for doing my bachelor's degree in Food Technology was a big win, as this college is one of the most highly praised colleges in the field of food science. It provides you with best lab facilities, which are very necessary for doing Food Technology practicals, it provides you a proper insights of how each and every sector works in a food processing vicinity and the faculty is also very helpful and highly qualified. The introduction of an additional one year research project along with your 3 year bachelor's degree will help you maintain your grip on your subject.

You need to qualify Common University Entrance Test (CUET) in the subject Biology, Chemistry, Physics with additional language to be get admission in my course. The eligibility criteria is 10+2 in PCB/PCM + language either English or Hindi. Admission in all the DU colleges is done through CSAS portal according to your CUET scorecard. Once you get admission, your examination will be conducted semester vise. Lady Irwin not only focuses on students’ academic growth but also the co- curricular activities that will help you face real-life challenges. They also offer you 3 additional subjects that are SEC, VAC, GE which will enhance your personal and academic growth.

We have to submit the college fee annually. The fee is just Rs. 34,000 per year, additional Rs. 2,000 is examination fee per semester and the registration fee was just Rs. 250 in CSAS portal. The University provides some scholarships to specific category students.

The faculty of this college is very good. They will help you throughout your journey, they are available whenever you need them and they tend to take out the best in you. All the faculty members are highly qualified and most of them have done PhD in their respective domains. Faculty uses PPTs, blackboard and interactive sessions to teach us; they take us to field trips as well for better understanding too. They solve all of our problems with so much ease. The teacher - student ratio is 1:30. My bonding with all my teachers is very good and they are highly aware of how to mold a student into a good Food Technologist.

There's a placement cell in my college and they help students to connect to different companies of their interest, they conduct several webinars and seminars to help students get insights of a company. They also conducted field visits for students in different companies.

My college provides residential facilities for UG, PG and foreign students. The total number of rooms are 22 with 20 having the capacity of 6 beds and 2 are the union rooms with capacity of 3 beds. Stove, refrigerator, common room, Wi-Fi, and mess facilities are there. It's a girls college so only girls hostel is there. The mess is quite clean and monthly inspection takes place for that. The fee is Rs. 60,000 per semester. Hostel timings are 6 AM to 7 PM. My personal experience was good at my hostel, I've learned a lot for their as well.

Lady Irwin College, Delhi is known for one of the best infrastructure in DU. There are different blocks for each department, library, highly functional labs, proper seating arrangements, hall, AC, Wi-Fi facilities, Auditorium, canteen, Basket ball court, front and back lawn, medical room etc. are there. My favourite place in the whole college is the front lawn, it is huge and from there, my college looks beautiful. This entire infrastructure highly reflects how good academics are there in our college.

I'm still in 3rd year and my campus life is good. The campus is beautiful, full of greenery. I'm the president of the fine arts society of my college and it gave me a lot, I've learned a lot. There are 16 societies in my college and they help individuals to interact more with people around you and enhance your personal growth. We have our annual cultural fest that is ‘Quintessence’. It is held every year and is just mesmerizing. My experience is really amazing in this college and I'll highly recommend it to someone who wants to do there's bachelor's in Food Technology or Home Science.
