Total Area of IIT Dharwad is Around 470 Acres

This institute is best for the students with a less rank JEE Advanced. It has decent placements, good campus life and a good infrastructure. Sports and hostel facilities are great too. Wellness centre is there for primary medication. So overall it is a good institute and I have a good experience here.

I am currently pursuing B.Tech in CSE from IIT Dharwad. I chose this institute because I am deeply interested in this course and this institute has a good curriculum for Computer Science and Engineering branch. For getting admission here, student must clear JEE Advanced with a good rank and have minimum 75% in HSC. For getting admission, you have to participate in JoSAA counselling. Once you get the seat allotted in JOSAA, you have to visit the institute, submit the required documents and pay the fees. Per semester, there are two quizzes, mid semester and end semester exams, lab exams, real world projects, Hackathons, tech fests, internship opportunities and inter-IIT competitions. All these prepare the student for real life challenges and help to make an excellent CV.

Fee of B.Tech for each semester is around Rs. 1,40,000/-. The tuition fee is Rs. 1,00,000/-, mess fees Rs. 20,000/-, hostel room rent with electricity and water charges is Rs. 3,500/- and other facilities like gymkhana, medical and wellness, library, examination and service charges cost around Rs. 16,000/-. Apart from this, registration fees is Rs. 1,500/-. There are many scholarships for economically weak or OBC-NCL/SC/ST students. According to their parents’ yearly income, students can get upto 100% tuition fees reimbursement.

Faculties of IIT Dharwad CSE department are highly qualified and passionate about teaching and their research. Most of the professors hold PhDs from excellent institutes like older IITs. Their background includes deep experience in research in AI, many algorithms, Machine Learning, computer vision and evolution of computer science. Faculties generally teach through PPTs. Some create groups for doubts and discussions on different topics. Faculties have good problem solving approaches with excellent experience and skills. The teacher student ratio is around 60 students per faculty. Faculties are very friendly with the students, encourages them for research fields, inter-IIT competitions and various Hackathons.

Career Development Cell (CDC) is present in the institute, which helps students in getting placements.

The institute offers residential facilities. There are two hostels, where in each room there are four students. The institute provides unlimited Wi-Fi access there. For first year students, girls and boys hostels are same but have different compartments. After first year, students have separate hostels. Inside the hostel, there are common rooms where different stuffs are kept for playing games like carom, table tennis, etc. Mess food is decent, with good hygiene. There is no time of entry and exit for the hostel, but you need permission for exiting the campus and have to return by 11 PM. I have good experience in hostel. It is a ragging free campus.

The campus size is about 470 acres. There is Central Learning Theatre where regular classes happen. There are academic blocks, where there are laboratories, classrooms and different scientific instruments for performing scientific experiments. Library is there for books and reading. Campus is 10-12 Km away from the main city so there is shortage of vehicles from campus to city. There are different classrooms with capacity range 70-150. There are projectors through which faculties teach by presentations and videos. Auditorium is there with capacity of 500 people. Ground is there for playing football (with nets), basketball court and cricket ground is also there. Indoor common facility of table tennis, badminton, squash and GYM is present. Every year General Championship (GC) happens every year between hostel wings. Canteen is present, where you get different dishes with good quality. Wellness centre is present, doctors visit daily and it stays open 24/7. Centre of attraction of the whole campus is Library.

My overall campus life is good. Campus is not much crowded, there are about 1,500 students present including B.Tech, M.Tech and PhD students. There are many clubs in IIT Dharwad like Coding Club, Robotics Club, Motor Sports Club, Photography Club, Finance Club, etc. I am part of Coding Club. These clubs organise various events through which students earn valuable knowledge. The institute organises annual tech fests, where different events happen and a lot of students participate from the campus and also from outside campus.
