IIT Dharwad has Clubs like Coding Club, Robotics Club, Dance Club, and Others

IIT Dharwad is one of the 3rd generation IITs that started in 2016. In 2023, we shifted to the permanent campus, which is spread over 470 acres. It is still under development, but most of the academic blocks and hostels are ready. The campus is calm, full of greenery, and the weather here is really good. Since the place is not in a busy city, life here is peaceful and distraction free. Internet is available 24/7 all around the campus. We are still growing, but overall life here is good and improving every semester.

The Institute offers B.Tech, M.Tech, and PhD in CSE, Mechanical Engineering, ECE, EEE, etc. Admission process for B.Tech is same as other IITs; clear JEE Advanced and apply for JoSAA counselling. We have 2 semesters per year, with quizzes, mid-semesters, end-semesters, and some surprise tests also. Attendance is important, 80% is needed otherwise you cannot sit in exams. Syllabus is updated and quite similar to IIT Bombay, which is our mentor Institute. Overall, we get a good balance between studies and extracurricular activities here.

For General / EWS / OBC students, the tuition fee is around 1 Lakh per semester. However, if your family income is less than 1 LPA, then the tuition fee is waived off and you only pay for hostel, mess and other charges. If your family income is between 1 LPA- 5 LPA, 2/3rd of the tuition fee is waived off. For SC/ST students, full tuition fee is waived off, regardless of the family income. The Merit-Cum-Means scholarship is given to top 25% students of each batch, whose family income is less the 4.5 LPA.

Most of the faculties here are PhD holders from different IITs or foreign universities. The faculties have many years of teaching experience too. The overall vibe with the faculty is decent and friendly. They help you whenever you need them. If you are interested in research work, you can reach out to the faculty working on the same topic and work under them. They will also help publish your research papers.

Placements are improving with every batch. This time, highest CTC offered was 55 LPA, and average was about 18 LPA. Companies like Adobe, Infosys, Wipro, Amazon, TCS, and CRED. have visited the campus for placements. The Career Development Cell (CDC) is very active and supports students with everything, from building resumes to organizing mock interviews. There are also coding sessions and prep talks held regularly. In addition, the seniors here are really helpful during the placement season and guide us based on their experience.

Hostels are newly made and good. I would say we have the best hostels and rooms amongst all IITs, but the only drawback here is that the rooms are 4 sharing. Still, they are clean, well lit, have fans, LAN port, cupboards, beds, tables and chairs for each member. Washrooms are shared and cleaned regularly. We have washing machines and water purifiers on each floor. We also have TT tables and common rooms on almost all the floors. Mess food is okay, not too good and not too bad.

Since it is a new campus, everything is modern and classrooms have projectors, Wi-Fi, LAN ports, etc. Labs are getting continuously upgraded. Library is the most beautiful building amongst all of the buildings that have been made till now. All types of comfortable chairs, sofas and tables are present in the library with 24/7 internet facilities. Library also has a viewing tower from where you can see the entire campus at once and in fact, this viewing point is the highest point in entire Dharwad. The campus has a sports ground, a Volley-Ball court, 2 Basket-Ball courts, and Badminton courts. There is also a wellness centre in the campus, where basic treatment is provided for free. The Institute’s buses regularly commute between Dharwad city and the campus 9-10 times a day. Mostly people inside the campus walk or use cycles for their day-to-day life. Overall infrastructure is nice and getting better.

Campus life of IIT Dharwad is relaxed and friendly. Because the batch size is small, you'll know almost everyone by face. Fests are small scale right now, but are fun and slowly getting better. There is no ragging; everyone here is supportive. The clubs are active and functioning, we have Tech Clubs like Coding Club, Robotics Club, etc. a Finance Club called ‘Insolvent’, Sports Clubs like Cricket Club, Hockey Club, Football Club, etc. and Cultural Clubs like Music and Singing Club, Dance Club, Photography and Films Club. Overall, life here is peaceful, with enough to enjoy, and a lot of time for self growth.
