SDCH Shimoga Celebreted its Silver Jubilee in July 2025

SDCH Shimoga is a well-known College in the city and recently celebrated its Silver Jubilee i.e. 25th Anniversery (in July 2025). The main factor which made me choose this College is that it has a very good inflow of patients as it is one of the nearest Dental Care Unit (Hospital). The College has a good surrounding, like it has all the basic amenities nearby the campus.

The course I chose is BDS because of the interest in Dental field and my main focus is to be an Oral Surgeon. The College admission is through NEET and KCET Counseling, and as per the last year's criteria, the cut off was around 400+, one must at least score a safe score of 450-470 to get a Government seat in this College for this academic year. Final exams will be conducted once a year (annual). Apart from that, there will be 3 internals per year, 3 theory, and 3 practical. The academics really prepare us well for the annual exams. The questions asked in internals are RGUHS based and practical based, so it helps.

SDCH Shimoga has both private and Government seats. I got the Government seat and fees for the same will be Rs. 86400/- with Rs. 50,000/- as miscellaneous fees (includes material fee, bus fee, etc.). There will be scholarships provided by the Government as well.

Talking about the faculty members in the College, they are very well disciplined and knowledgeable. All the teaching staff have completed their MDS and have previous year experience. Most of them prefer PPT for teaching, while some use blackboard to teach. Teacher student ratio is good and all the teachers are working in the department as well.

The campus is rich in greenery and nature friendly. The College has a very good infrastructure. It has 9 departments in the College, hospital and a well-maintained library, a snack station, dispensary, and clean washrooms. Campus size is very huge and also has a football ground in campus. There is a newly built seminar hall in College, and a newly renovated auditorium which is centrally air conditioned, with fixed cushion chairs, and soundproof walls with good lighting. My favourite thing about the College is the auditorium and the greenery outside the campus.

Overall campus life is wonderful.Moreover, the campus is very safe and secure. There is an annual fest organised every year which is the highlight of the College and the best time for everyone to enjoy. Also to mention, there are many events happening throughout the year. You'd definitely like the campus life here.
