JGEC Jalpaiguri Offers Excellent Job Opportunities with High Salary Packages

JGEC Jalpaiguri is a good choice for students seeking affordable Engineering education in West Bengal. As a government college, it provides a balance of academic opportunities and extracurricular activities within a friendly and welcoming environment. There are many clubs; senior-junior interaction is also nice. Overall, my experience is good.

After clearing WBJEE, I got Electronics and Communication Engineering at Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College. Additionally you must pass the 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics as compulsory subject. The admission process of this institute is simple. You have to go through the counseling process, then the college is allotted based on your rank, and then physical verification is done at institute level. There are semester exams and internal exams respectively carrying 70% and 15% weightage and the rest is in the hand of professor depending upon your attendance and projects or assignments. The academics and educational clubs prepare you for real life challenges.

The total fees for 4 years B.Tech course except hostel and mess vary from 40,000/- to 1, 20,000/- depending on your department. For ECE, it is Rs. 24,000/- for 1st year including admission fees approximately Rs. 12,500/- and later Rs. 15,000/- per year. Special discounts are provided to TFW students. SVMCM is the most popular scholarship, the amount is Rs. 60,000/- per annum. Beside this, many scholarships are provided to students by alumni association.

In my department, the faculty members are good. They are supportive; you can reach out to them for any doubts even outside classroom hours. Most of the faculty members are either PhD holders or experienced M.Sc graduates with deep knowledge in their fields. They teach on blackboard by writing things with their chalks. Some students also find the teaching style of certain professors less effective. The teacher-student ratio is 1:7. One mentor is assigned to every 7-8 student. The faculty members are very much approachable.

There is a Training and Placement Cell, which manages entire placement, and internship related activities. It conducts various sessions and seminars throughout the year. Companies like TCS, Cognizant, Wipro, Aditya Birla, Amazon, Tata Power, Larsen & Toubro (L&T), BYJUS, CTS are top on-campus recruiters. In this year, PSU like Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) also recruited many students from our campus. In last year, highest package was 63.5 LPA and average was 8 LPA.

There are 5 hostels in this institute for students (4 for boys and 1 for girls). There are separate boys hostel for each year. The hostels are old but recent renovations have improved living standards. The mess food quality is average. They served food two times (lunch and dinner) a day. Hostel and mess fee is around Rs. 16,000/- per semester. Hostel gate is generally closed at 9 PM.

The campus is clean and well maintained. There is academic building, Central Library, Auditorium. The campus area of JGEC Jalpaiguri is around 118 acres. The classrooms are also large. The labs are also good. There are many books in the central library. The auditorium is so large. There are separate fields for many sports. There are many canteens in the campus area. Association. There are conference hall, meeting rooms, mini-library, guest rooms, etc.

My campus life is good. There is a Night school named ‘JYOTI’, where college students provide free education to unprivileged children in the college locality. It was formed by the 2010 batch of this College. Many events such as Hackathons, dances, cultural programs, etc. make the campus life so exciting. There are two main fests; one is 'JECLAT' and the other is 'SRISTI', North-Bengal's largest Techno-Management Fest. Overall, the campus life is amazing.
