SNU Kolkata Campus has Separate Hostels for Boys' & Girls'

I am a Literature student in SNU Kolkata, and the professors are very amiable for this subject. The infrastructure is very well equipped with all modern amenities and they encourage a lot of extracurricular activities along with academics. Moreover, as we reach near our graduation individuals are also trained for the job market with lessons on interviews, group discussions and etc. Overall, it's a wonderful University.

I chose B.A (Hons.) in English as my major subject because I have always been enthusiastic about it. Getting admission in this course is fairly easy. However, you would still need to have the minimum passing percentage in their Class 12th boards, which is 50%. After which, exams will be taken in two rounds, the first being a written MCQ test and the second one would be an interview. These two rounds of examination can be conducted both online and offline. Results for the admission is given in due time, which is within the period of 1 to 2 days. The English department has also recently adapted a very student friendly manner of teaching. The semester exams are conducted in two ways, the first being continuous assessments of 50 marks where our punctuality, participation and their ability to grasp information in the class is tested while the final examinations of 30 marks test the overall modules taught to them. The academics do not just focus on theory, but also actively engages individuals to face real life situations. The minor subjects also provide us with a chance to learn beyond just literature. Subjects like Soft Skills Development prepares us for interviews and the corporate world. The exams taken by the department would also be very mindful so the students would be able to score high marks easily.

During the admission the University charges the fee of the first semester along with the admission fee and 1st installment for annual fee is Rs. 82,125/-. Scholarships are also available for the economically weeker students.

In our department, we have skilled professors, who are also very approachable & student friendly. They all come from an experienced background of teaching, and use interactive methods to teach. The faculties often use PPTs to explain certain topics better and even encourage us to participate in co-curricular activities. They are often available for doubt clearing sessions. The teachers pay a good amount of attention to also make individuals feel comfortable during classes, and help us out in several problems not just related to academics but also certain real life issues. The discussions held by them often include scenarios out of the books. Personally I feel very safe and heard around all the faculties, they even make studies fun.

The University has hostels for female & male students, separately.

Our University is divided into two blocks, the B block is majorly for Engineering students, while subjects such as English, Journalism, etc. are conducted in the A block. There is a huge ground with a basketball court, thus individuals can not only sit in the ground during breaks but can also engage into some fun activities or games. Classrooms of both the blocks are fairly spacious, and the B block even has air conditioners in their lecture halls, however in A block only labs have AC. We also have a library well stocked with new books, and benches where students can also study. Seminar hall is present in the A block and a huge auditorium is present in the B block. Security guards are present on every floor, and all the rooms have working CCTV cameras. A canteen is also present here along with some food trucks where we can get a variety of food items. Both the buildings have elevators which are really helpful.

The campus life is up to the mark. There are a lot of students, and various clubs are also present here. SNU Kolkata particularly gives a lot of emphasis on co-curricular activities such as singing and dancing. Several events are held throughout the year, along with seminars which can be really helpful for us as many experts get invited. There's also an annual fest called 'AIU Unifest', where anyone can participate in several activities and even get awarded with certificates. Every year, the University conducts activities to raise awareness against Ragging.
