KPMSOL Mumbai Offers Admission via Valid Scores of NMIMS-LET or CLAT Exams

This Institute is a constituent unit of SVKM's NMIMS Deemed-to-be-University. I opted for this Institute after receiving my NMIMS-LAT entrance result and got a seat at the Mumbai campus. The biggest factor was definitely the location. Mumbai offers a lot of exposure and opportunities, especially when it comes to future career growth, and it also has a great reputation. I had heard that placement opportunities were decent as well. So overall, it seems like the safer and more suitable choice. This Institute is more of a mix of comfort and academics, with quality education being major focus. The infrastructure is genuinely very good. The students are also generally nice. Few major events are held here & Navrang is a the main one. Formal dress code is also recently implicated by higher authorities. Overall, the Institute is average as it is academically strong and highly-disciplined.

I am pursuing B.A.LL.B, which I chose because I studied Humanities in class 11th and 12th. I have always been more comfortable with subjects like Political Science & History than with Commerce and other Mathematical subjects. The admission process is fairly straightforward. Students can get admission through their CLAT scores or by appearing in NMIMS-LAT (University’s own online entrance examination). NMIMS-LAT is an MCQ based exam, and in my experience, it is relatively easy compared to other Law entrance exams. There is no interview, and once the results are declared, students are allotted campuses based on their rank, followed by document submission and direct admission. Academically, the course is quite demanding, with eight subjects in a semester, along with assignments, presentations, group discussions, class participation, and examinations. The attendance requirement is 70%. Each subject generally has a 20-mark mid semester exam examination and 50-mark term end examination, while the remaining internal assessment marks are decided by the respective professors through class participation, GDs, presentations, assignments or quizzes. Since I am currently in my second year, a significant part of the course is still focused on the B.A, particularly Humanities subjects, so I would not say that it has fully prepared me for practical legal work yet. However, the loss subjects I have started studying are useful for developing basic legal knowledge, argumentation, legal research, and skills that can help with mooting and internships. Overall, the academics are rigorous and theoretical at this stage, but I believe they will become more practically relevant as the course progress.

The current annual tuition fee for B.A.LL.B (2nd year) is approximately Rs. 3,69,000/-, covering the academic and other regular Institute related facilities. This fee excludes hostel and mess charges. At the time of admission, there was also a registration fee of approximately Rs. 1000/- to Rs. 1500/-. The first year fee was around Rs. 3,75,000/-, including some one-time charges. The fee is to be paid at the beginning of the academic year, usually in July. An EMI option is available, but it is considerably more expensive than paying the amount upfront. I’m not aware of any specific scholarships or free concessions.

I would rate the faculty 7.5 out of 10. Overall, they are good. Some of the teachers are highly experienced and extremely knowledgeable, while others are simply average. Most professors explain concepts through lectures and PPTs using smart boards, while also using the whiteboard feature in the smart board whenever necessary. They regularly give real life examples and discuss cases, and a few classes also involve debates and discussion sessions. They encourage students to participate and are willing to clarify doubts. The professors do not depend heavily on textbooks or PPTs. PPTs are mostly used for key points, which they then explain in detail. The biggest positive is their approachability. Although they may appear strict during class, they are genuinely friendly and helpful outside it. Students can approach them before or after class, stay back to discuss doubts, or email them, and professors generally respond and provide proper guidance. The teacher student interaction is a good balance of being professional and friendly. They also provide detailed feedback on assignments, presentations, and GDs, pointing out both strengths and areas of improvement.

I do not have enough personal experience or concrete information to give a detailed review of the placement opportunities at KPMSOL Mumbai. There is a dedicated Placement Cell that assists students with opportunities and recruitment. Since I am still in my second year, I have not gone through the placement process myself either. Therefore, I don’t have accurate information regarding the companies that recruit, average or highest packages or the overall placement experience. Students who are considering the Institute specifically for placements should do an independently research, the latest placement reports and speak to final year students or alumni before making a decision.

The does not have its own hostel or residential facilities. Therefore, there are no Institute hostel or mess fees. However, the Institute has tie-ups with private hostels, although accommodation there is subject to availability. Most students instead choose private hostels, PGs, or rented apartments near the Institute. The cost of accommodation varies significantly, depending on the location and facilities, starting from around Rs. 3,00,000/- per year and going much higher. In my first year, I stayed in a PG about a 10 minute walk from the Institute. Overall, accommodation is easily available around the Institute, but students have to arrange and pay for it independently, and finding a good option at a reasonable price can require considerable searching.

I would rate the overall infrastructure 8 out of 10. Although there is no traditional campus, the building itself has good infrastructure, with air-conditioned classrooms, smart boards and well maintained interiors. The classrooms are comfortable enough, although the seating could be better. The library is one of the better facilities- it is spacious, quiet, and comfortable, has significant Law books and provides access to digital resources and computers for research. It is open from the early morning until around 8 PM, making it convenient for students. The canteen serves reasonably good food at affordable prices and offers a decent variety, although it is quite small and gets crowded very quickly, making seating a major issue. The washrooms are regularly cleaned, while security is strict and efficient, with automated facial recognition entry gates and ID verification. However, it would have been great if there were some recreational spaces. The building also has only two lifts for eight floors and four Schools, which creates an especially rush in the mornings and during lunch breaks, sometimes requiring a 10 to 15 minute wait. Overall, the infrastructure is average.

Students are generally friendly and social, although most tend to stay within their own friend groups and are quite academically focused. Making friends is not difficult, but you do have to put in some effort yourself. There are many active clubs and societies, along with moot court, competitions, debates, department events, and cultural activities. Festival such as Navratri, Diwali, and Ganpati or events like Independence Day, Teachers’ Day and Children’s Day are nicely celebrated. The balance between academics and fun is definitely tilted towards academics. The best part of student life is the friendship you make and of course, being in Mumbai, where there is always something happening outside Institute. The biggest disappointment remains the lack of a campus, which significantly limits the overall campus life experience.
