JSS Academy of Technical Education B.Tech Review By Anshika Singh

My first year in JSS Academy of Technical Education was almost fine. For most of the people that are there in the southern regions and know kannada, have better opportunities in the college. Since, many people in the college speak only in kannada which is justified as it’s the state language, but some don't want to translate the language for the others to understand and for all the northies and the southies who don't know kannada, it is very difficult for them and they are forced to learn it. Also many of their role plays, acts etc are done in their language. The best part of all this is all the faculty, except for some understand and know that all the students studying in their college do not know kannada hence they tend to speak mostly in English. The worst part though is, some might agree that all the people who do not know the language feel left out. As far as academics, the teachers are good, except for some, although the faculty is not that helpful. Will explain this later. The infrastructure of the college is the best, it is large and has greenery and looks beautiful. The fees is immense for outsiders also now they have imposed fines and all which they announce just a few days before.

The subjects the fine I mean some are useless. Usually I found some labs to be unnecessary. Like most of the stuff in the labs needs to be mugged up, there is very little understanding and it gets so difficult to learn all those programs, here am not talking about programming languages because they are quite understandable. But in CSE lab we had an hardware part which was part B and was very difficult, also in our 5th SEM guess we had cn lab which had ns2 programs which were also very difficult to understand and learn and were not, according to be that important. I believe that some subjects that have unnecessary information which can easily be grasped from the net should be removed and more focus should be made on increasing the understanding and problem solving skills of the students. The grading system is fair until you have messed up with some teacher. But, if you have good relations, and the teachers see that you are hardworking then they will help you out also.

The faculty in JSS Academy of Technical Education is well versed with the subjects except for some. Allover I am satisfied with the faculty except for some who have a habit of troubling students and cutting marks just to show that they are strict, but believe that where the university is under affiliation to VTU, it is important for the students to get good marks in the internals, there was this particular teacher who used to teach us subject, he was so rude that he didn’t even care if a student had a medical condition and was completely heartless. All he cared was attendance and marks. Due to such teachers there is a little hate, but overall it is bearable.

Yes, but I believe that a student can learn much more by YouTube and other sources available on the internet.

Yes, we do have hostel facility. The food in the hostel is not that great and the warden does not much about it. Rest the rooms are spacious but still, I feel it is better to take a flat and stay rather in hostel.

This is the best part about the college is its infrastructure, it has greenery and good area. One can easily walk in the college and have fun. It is peaceful. Honestly just like the infrastructure of this college. There is a basketball court, and two grounds for the students to play. Also the buildings are very neat and clean. The classrooms are also very spacious and tidy. The greenery and the location of this college makes it a wonderful place.

Campus life is ok. Was slightly disappointed when I came here. It is fine, but not too good. It would be better for an autonomous college or somewhere else. Don't know why, but I’m not satisfied with the campus life. The guards keep hushing people wherever they find a gathering, difficult for groups to talk freely. Although it’s fine as they have some activities and JSS verve which is conducted in the even semester is one of the best fests which makes the college life a little bearable.
