This college was established as a regional institute of technology in 1960 and later upgraded to National Institute of Technology in 2002. It is one of the 31 NITs in India. It was ranked 79 by National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in 2020 among engineering colleges in India.

For getting admission in NIT Jsr for B-tech course, you will have to score a decent rank in JEE Main as seats are provided for preferred colleges based on AIR in JEE Main. Candidates are required to apply through JOSAA for securing their respective seats. International applicants are also eligible to apply. All these admission processes are very transparent. Also, the college provides several courses and programs for higher educational degrees in various areas of study. Regarding college management, you may find it a little disappointing in case of query service but other than this it's good. Once you get into college, it's not going to affect you. It provides several academic and non-academic facilities including an online and offline library which contains a large number of books, research papers, journals, etc. There are also specific laboratories for each department like CAD laboratory, gas dynamic laboratory and many more. In the case of providing facilities, this college is never going to let you down. It has a great alumni network and college organizes alumni meet more often. We have Industry and Alumni Relations Centre to strengthen and develop relations which further help in an internship, fellowship, etc. Other than academics, there are many other things like sports fest, technical fest and different festivals which are organised within the campus that allow us to experience varied culture and aspects. Briefly, the college provides so many things and what you just need is to take advantage of all those opportunities.

I am currently pursuing as a first-year B-tech at NIT Jamshedpur from civil engineering. The entrance exam that is required for enrolling into B-tech course is JEE Main only. From start, I was not very specified for the branch and as per my rank, I was able to get the civil branch. I grabbed this opportunity only because it is one of the topmost colleges and the location is great. Especially, placement is okay for approximately all branches. Also, civil is considered as the best branch for future as construction tasks are increasing day by day in India.

This college provides various opportunities as most of the companies which come for campus placement are open for all branches. This allows students to choose according to their preference and a major edge for me to join this course. Initially, subjects are the same for all branches and later it will be differentiated based on specific courses. We all must have heard that first year is basic as 12th standard but it's not like that, courses are a bit advanced than that and self-study is needed for one to pass with flying colors but frankly, don't completely depend on professors and use all resources being provided by the college. Overall, course subjects are as per my expectations and this course will be helpful to get a job.

Being admitted during the covid period when everything is going online, I don't have much interaction with professors. But get to know one thing clearly that faculty members are helping and highly qualified. Most of them are calm but sometimes they also get irritated due to technical glitch. As students are from different parts of the country and they may sometimes face problems related to communication but professors try to converse in both English and Hindi. Most of them share their WhatsApp number so that students could ask doubts even after class. There are a total 130+ faculty members including head and associate professors.

Regarding academic qualifications, the majority have gotten their higher education from IITs or from other renowned colleges which is self-explanatory about them. Even if you are not satisfied with their teaching methods there are other sources like YouTube from where you can learn your subjects and seniors guide us in this matter. Seniors are very helping and they organize different online events like group discussion, quiz and many interactive sessions. All these help us to get to know about our batch mates and feel those college vibes that we are missing. Altogether, the college provides a better environment and each of the professors is expert in their respective subject and is very supportive.

The Training and Placement Cell plays an important role in college. It not only helps in the process of placement of students but also in an internship, pre-placement offers and many more. It facilitates students by conducting various interactive sessions like interviews, group discussions, exams, etc.

Highest package is of Rs. 70 LPA in the year 2015 for CSE branch and the highest package of 2020 is Rs. 39 LPA for EEE branch. It was ranked 9th among all NITs in terms of an average package in the year 2018-19. More than 60 students in 2020 have got double offers. 90 students got packages above 10 LPA, 354 students got placed with packages between 6-10 LPA and 121 students got packages between 4-6 LPA. All these data are self-explanatory about the placement scenario of the college. Top companies which visit every year to our college for campus placement are Microsoft, Tata Steel, Godrej, Amazon, Infosys, Vedanta, Wipro Turbo, etc. Overall, placement statistics are simply awesome for even lower branches and we get ample of opportunities in internship and placements.

The college campus has a total 13 hostels out of which 9 for boys and 4 for girls. Regarding girls hostel, each one has a total capacity of 180 students and facilities which provide mess, Wi-Fi internet facility, gymnasium, the common room having television, outdoor game facilities, and indoor game facilities like carom. The mess provides breakfast, lunch, dinner including refreshment snacks in the evening. Quality of mess food is good and healthy.

There are certain rules and regulations of hostels for boarders which are strictly followed. Approximately the same facilities are also provided to boys hostel and even they get a single room with balcony in the second year. Most of these data are those which are being told to us by management as I am a first-year student. But according to my friends who are studying there in the second year, facilities are nearly the same as what is being said to us. For boys, there are also night canteens. Security and other facilities are pretty good and appreciable. Whatever amenities are provided, I believe hostel life is going to be fun and the most memorable part of our life.

I am excited about it because a new academic building got ready costing in crores and we are going to be the first batch to start our classes from a new building. It is fully air-conditioned and something that I brag to my friends who are in IITs. It is situated in the western part of the city on 341 acres of land. It is distant from the city and away from noise and pollution. It is surrounded by some industries which provide unique advantages to it.

If you are a nature lover, then this place is surely for you with one side of urban view and low hills on the other side. The library spans an area of about 32184 sq. feet of the three-storied building containing a large collection of journals and books. Also, we have computer laboratories, different labs as per the requirement of different departments and conference rooms for workshop or seminars. General store, guest house, canteen, gymkhana, medical facility, transport facility, etc. are provided within the campus. Most of the amenities are present inside the campus and even if you want to go outside for any work then transport facilities are provided.

Overall campus life is good as most of the required things are present within the campus. In college, there are 60+ active clubs. Some of them are cultural and dramatics society, photography cum filming club, entrepreneurship cell and many more. Even if you are interested in meme-making, there are clubs for that also. Also, some clubs are representing our college on the national level. Many workshops are organised timely on different topics.

Ojass, a techno-management fest which is the second biggest technical fest in north-east India. Culfest is the annual cultural festival which is organized at a big level and students from all over India come to participate. Also, we have several annual fests of different departments which are quite famous. Vidhaan is the annual fest of the civil engineering branch, Cognitio is the annual festival of mechanical department, Technica is the annual fest of the metallurgical and material department of our college. Altogether, all these help to learn, experience and explore so many new things and gives us a chance of exposure to varied cultures and different people to grow together.
