UPES, College of Legal Studies started in the year 2003 in Dehradun, Uttarakhand as a Private Educational institute for availing higher education to students in the field of law. The college holds affiliations with the Bar Council of India and has received recognition from UGC and is accredited with National Assessment and Accreditation Council. Currently, the school of law is working under the sponsorship of UPES Dehradun. The School of Law provides specialization in courses of Corporate Law, Taxation Laws, Energy Specialization in addition to courses like Cyber Law and Intellectual Property Rights. The school comprises of courses such as BBA LLB (Hons.) in Corporate Law, BA LLB in Energy Laws, B.Tech Energy Technology, LLB in Taxation Laws, LLB in Intellectual Property Rights, and B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering. Presently, the management of UPES, college of Legal Studies is working under (Dean) Dr. Vijay Kumar Singh.
The College of Legal Studies has its admission procedure which every willing candidate has to follow. UPES, College of Legal Studies takes an entrance exam for its graduation and post-graduation courses. For BBA LLB (Hons.)/ BA LLB (Hons.)/ B.Com, LLB (Hons), candidates having a minimum of 50% marks in their higher secondary school or have L-SAT score of 60% or above get an exemption from giving Law Studies Aptitude Test conducted by UPES and get a direct call for GD and personal interview. For B.Tech LLB (Hons.), candidates having a score of 50% in their higher secondary school with PCM as their subject get an exemption from giving the entrance test. Also, candidates with L-SAT score of 60% get an exemption from providing UPES-EAT.
UPES, College of Legal Studies received the Best Innovative University Award 2013, at ASSOCHAM. In the year 2012, it received the SAP ACE Award for Public Services. In the World Education Summit, the college received Green Campus Award in 2013.
There is a library available in the college on a departmental basis. College of legal studies has its library full of books, magazines, journals, separate reading as well as a reference section, and e-resources with access to a large number of e-books and e-journals.
