The BIT Mesra campus is developed over an area of approximately 780 acres of lush green land. The premises comprise the main building, administration block, workshop annex, and many other dedicated spaces for varied purposes.
Deployment of security guards and CCTV surveillance are there at the BIT Mesra so that a safe environment is provided to the students. Other than this, a multitude of academic and non-academic amenities are offered to the students such as classrooms, library, laboratories, auditorium, seminar halls, sports, hostel, transportation, bank, and more.
There are around 10 smart classrooms and 50 ICT-enabled classrooms at the University that are well-equipped with modern teaching-learning aids like projector, smart boards, LCD projectors, digital writing pads, etc. Lecture halls / theatres with centralised AC are also there for imparting quality education to the students.
There is a mini-auditorium at the campus wherein small gatherings and activities are conducted. Apart from this, ‘Golden Jubilee Auditorium’, ‘GP Birla Auditorium’, ‘CAT Hall’, etc. with a seating capacity of nearly 3000, 2500, and 300 students, respectively are present that are used for hosting various large-scale events. Here, ACs, lighting systems, and AV aids like projectors, speakers, and so on are installed.
The seminar halls and conference rooms available at the BIT Mesra campus have air-conditioner, and multimedia aids for conducting different formal events. A shopping complex / centre is present in the premises wherein various eateries, a stationery shop, salons, and facilities for many more daily requirements of students are available.
Other infrastructural facilities which are there at the University’s campus include drawing halls, multi-purpose hall, amphitheatre, activity room, community hall, board room, music room, marketing centre, guest house, design studio, club house, and the list goes on.
The major amenities that students get inside the University’s premises are described in detail below:
- Library: The central library of the University is automated and spread over 3 floors. It has a vast assortment of learning materials like approximately 1,52,801 volumes, 49,675 titles, around 108 print journals, 11 magazines, 10 newspapers, 3200+ CDs / DVDs, more than 18,512 bound volumes, and more.
There is a separate Internet section in the library wherein numerous networked terminals are available for students & faculties. Here, they can access e-learning resources like Elsevier's Science Direct, E-SodhSindhu, National Digital Library (NDL), Taylor & Francis, Springer, NPTEL, etc. The other facilities that are available at the library include a reading hall in all floors, digital library, book bank section, reference section, reprography, Language laboratory, and much more.
- Laboratories: There are multiple computer laboratories at the BIT Mesra campus wherein approximately 2317 systems of latest hardware and software are installed. At these computing facilities, students can improve their digital skills and also complete their research & academic tasks efficiently.
Beyond this, technologically advanced labs are there for different domains to enhance the practical skills of the students. A few of the labs that are present for departments like Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, etc. include NMR lab, Plasma lab, Heat Transfer lab, Instrument lab, Language lab, and much more.
- Sports: The ‘Physical Education & Sports Department’ of the University organises the ‘Annual Athletic Meet’ and various other sports tournaments to encourage the students to participate in the interested games and improve their physical & mental health. The ‘Sports Complex’ is spread over a land area of over 24 acres that comprises infrastructure for different outdoor & indoor games.
It includes 2 Cricket Grounds, 2 Football Grounds, 2 Hockey Grounds, 4 Basketball Courts, 6 Volleyball Courts, 6 Table Tennis Courts,8 Badminton Courts, Kabaddi Ground, Kho-Kho Ground, Indoor Badminton Stadium, etc. Moreover, facilities for Chess, Lawn Tennis, Throw Ball, Handball, and several other games are also there.
- Hostels: There are around 11 hostels for boys and 3 for girls within the premises of the Deemed University. The rooms of the BIT Mesra Hostels are offered in single and sharing options to the male and female residents, respectively.
Mess facility along with dining hall is available at each of the accommodation spaces wherein freshly prepared meals are served to the boarders. The other hostel facilities include reading rooms, common rooms, gym, entertainment halls, and much more.
- Canteen: There are various eateries available inside the BIT Mesra campus such as ‘IC Arena’, ‘Mehek Canteen’, ‘Hot n Cold The Coffee Shop’, and ‘BIT Canteen Apni Rasoi’, to name a few. At these places, tasty and nutritious snacks, dishes, and beverages are served to the students.
- Transportation: There is a ‘Transport Department’ that is responsible for managing the buses and providing safe commuting facilities for students traveling to and from the Birla Institute of Technology Mesra campus.
- Healthcare Facilities: The ‘Health Centre’ of the University covers approximately 1150 square metres of land. The Doctors and Paramedical staff are available here 24*7 to provide IPD, OPD, and emergency medical care to the students and staff members. Also, nearly 4 well-equipped ambulances are there for emergency medical situations.
- Gymnasium: There is a gym hall and a multi-gym area inside the University’s premises. Here, well-maintained training equipment are available that students can use to exercise and stay fit.
- Banking: Inside the BIT Mesra campus, adequate banking and financial services are facilitated to the students through SBI Bank & ATM, UCO Bank, ICICI Bank, etc. Other than this, a dedicated India Post Office is also there for the students providing facilities like speed post, registered post, etc.
At the BIT Mesra Ranchi campus, students can engage in more than 30 clubs’ activities and showcase their talents. The University has also established many committees that are responsible for maintaining discipline among the students.
