JIMS Engineering Management Technical Campus B.Tech Review By Aman Raj

I was a former B.Tech Civil student at JIMS. This wasn’t the career path but a sort of compromise as I failed to get admission where I wanted. Civil was again not my preferred branch but thanks to JIMS as the civil branch didn’t had the required number of students and they allowed me or rather many more like me to join their civil batch so that their quota of seats are full. The college is another addition at the Knowledge Park in Greater Noida and has one of the best infrastructures. The college is built like a society where there are too many buildings and all at a fair distance from each other. The college has a proper transportation system in line for day scholars coming from Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, Delhi or Noida. The college placements are also decent and soft skills is what the main focus of the college was. The well-equipped labs were made available for students as and when required. The fees is reasonable if we compare that with other colleges. In short JIMS Engineering College is value for money.

I pursued B.Tech and will say that the way studies was handled or should I say the approach of the institute towards it was great. The first part is attendance and that was strict. Then comes the lecture part as they were kept short. The classes underwent at 9.30 am and lasted till 4.30. There were much needed 2 breaks and I would say they went about the business professionally. The college knows how to manufacture students and for that they went easy on us during the 1st year but as the time progressed we were given hard tasks and probably the college knew how to make products and that is why by the end of the college we were all industry ready.

They are the backbone of an institution and the college has one of the best. All of them were engineers from IITs and other top institutes. The faculty had their ways of teaching and coming in terms with the students. It’s not that they knew each and every individual personally but the significant ones were always on their mind. The intelligent ones were obviously there favorites but the weaker ones were not left behind or ignored entirely. Extra classes at will were available for students and no faculty ever denied to that.

The reason why we all were given Civil was because the placement cell for the Civil department is of hardly any use. The placement cell and the students of our stream were never on same page. We were given a choice of applying for companies like BYJU’s or IT companies. How can Civil students work for that but we were given a proper reasoning that real estate market or the engineering units are in a slowdown and no such company will visit the campus. Hence, I decided to chuck the placement interviews as my studies would have been of no use. Likewise many from my branch did the same. The gist of the matter is that the placements are there but don’t opt Civil branch as Auto, IT and the newly formed academic companies like BYJU’s and Unacademy were the front runners in hiring.

The boy’s hostel is inside the college campus while girls hostel is at a distance of 500m. The college has provided transportation facility for pickup and drop from the hostel. The boy’s hostel rooms were small as triple sharing rooms were the most. The rooms are also available on double sharing but the fees increases. It’s because I didn’t stayed in the hostel I am not the one who can speak more about the college life at the hostel. The hostels were common for all the courses of the college.

The college was wide and spread across over 5 acres of land. All the classrooms were air-conditioned and had 2 split AC’s in each classrooms. The centralized AC library was at the backend of the campus and had books of all the streams. Not just course related books but also many story books, autobiographies and other discipline books were available in the library. There are 3 canteens in the college and all different from each other. One was specific for tea, coffee and snacks while other two served different varieties of food. The labs at the college were the high-point as they had all the latest instruments. Each and every building of the college has solar roofs at the top and the campus is complete eco-friendly as the usage of plastic bags and smoking was strictly prohibited at the campus. The entire campus is full of greenery and had sporting facilities like a basketball court and table tennis indoor court inside the college campus.

The campus may not be that big but was enough to accommodate students of so many streams. The huge canteen was our favorite pass-time and also the Volleyball court as completing the game in a 30 minutes break was the main goal rather than winning or losing. Another good thing about the college is that the crowd is great. All the students hail from sound background and all were well-behaved and most of them mind their own business.
