DJ Sanghvi College of Engineering is best suited for people looking for college on the western line. Not just the academic section but the crowd of the college is awesome too. The placements are also best and for those who fail to get placements through college, the college assists them for placements even after the final semester is over. However, there are many myths as well about the college which are all not true as some of your dreams will be shattered because college is not so great in all the parameters. The campus consists only of just one building and that is the biggest drawback. The classes frequently get postponed as there are not enough classrooms and the time management is something that they should learn as students in Mumbai had to travel from places to attend the college. The attendance rule is strict and even during heavy rains, you can’t have excuses for missing the classes. I many times felt that I should have slogged a bit more to get some of the better-placed colleges than Dwarkadas Sanghvi College of Engineering.

The new attendance rule was started during our batch and it was such a pain because when they said 80% attendance is required they actually meant it. Attendance was not the only thing that was strict appearing on bi-weekly module tests was even more compulsory. There are 100 engineering colleges under Mumbai University and DJ is the only one that has this kind of test. Engineering students are busy with projects and research but at DJ please make books your best friends as all those thing exists only in dreams. The labs were not that worth of the hype that has been created by them. Some instruments are outdated while some didn’t have all the required instruments. Look academic was strict and also made students prepare for the exams much before the semester exams but in engineering getting strict is not the way to get the job done.

Faculty is okayish as the first year all the experienced ones were the ones who took the classes and in the final all the newly recruited ones taught us. Who does but since DJ is unpredictable this didn’t came as a surprise for us. Not just that most of the faculty members were young and were friendly enough but lacked experience. Hence, the teachers are there for help but at the end of the day you will have to pass on your own if you are at DJ College.

Nearly 100% because all of us at least had the job offer. The package was certainly much below as Rs. 3-5 lakhs was the range barring a couple among us no one got the placement beyond 5 lakhs. IT companies are always in search of fresh legs and our college’s location may have helped the companies banking on us. However, they are not ready to pay well and that was the reason half of us had to contain with further studies. One good thing is that DJ Sanghvi Placements cell gets placed maximum students and for students who miss out in final placements are also given opportunities and most of them got placed as well even after missing in the final round of placements. My branch was CSE and IT companies took all of us so the placements might not be the best but at least got us in the sector we wanted to go in.

The college doesn’t have a hostel of its own. Forget about the hostel the college doesn’t even have enough parking space how they can accommodate the hostel on such a petty campus. Not many outsiders have been a part of DJ even though it has a good name. Still for the ones who want to find accommodation, Mumbai every year has 200k students as per some reports that I studied recently. Not many colleges in Mumbai have hostels but renting a flat or finding a PG is not that a tough ask in Mumbai.

This is the worst section as the college is tiny can be digested but ACs of classrooms not working for weeks and not getting repaired then obviously we will have problems with that. As per the departments, the number of classrooms and labs is not enough and the labs that are there are old and also lacked the instruments that they should have. The computer center which is the biggest lab or room on the campus is maintained. The sports arena has broken table tennis tables and there is also an outdated gym. The gym has been turned into a girl’s common room so boys are not even allowed to use that. For all the fees that the college charge from us where do they invest is my question to the college management.

The small cafeteria was a relaxing point as every day I used to get scolded by my teachers for some or the other reason. Not just I but out of 60 in our class, 30 will have the exact story. To keep our heads calm the cafeteria tea was great as it was the only place where students can meet. The fest which was hyped so much had nothing as great about it. Every year a new hall is booked but in name of personality visiting, some politician will come and give a speech of encouragement. Thus if you are into studies and have the ambition of higher studies, you can join otherwise there are many great options in Mumbai itself.
