Review of National Institute of Technology, Calicut

Overall Rating
The culture of this campus is something which made me want to join here the most. Thinking this was different from the usual colleges you hear about (in Kerala at least) but at the end of the day, this too is a campus governed by internal politics and administration. As a first year joining, what attracted me most were the fests and clubs. The fests are all cancelled as of now and since the fests are cancelled, the clubs have nothing to do.
 

Academics Rating
The course I have chosen is mechanical engineering. The closing rank was 29000 something in JEE mains in 2024. I'm not sure. The mechanical engineering department is one of the most well established departments here in NITC and in general if you are keen in pursuing mechanical engineering, then NITC might be a good choice.
 

Faculty Rating
The staff is very knowledgeable (as most of them have completed their B.Tech from IITs like Bombay, Madras, etc.), but like most premiere institutes in India, their knowledge doesn't translate to the lack of teaching skills. At the end of the day, no matter how good you listen to class, you will end up referring to online lectures for help during exams for some subjects.
 

Placement Rating
There is a Placement Cell in the institute. It is helpful in acquiring jobs as a lot of 4th year students use this resource.
 

Hostel Rating
In the first year hostel, you'll have to share your room with 3 others. It's not the room you were dreaming of after clearing mains, but after second year you are shifted to another building which is by all great standards.
 

Infrastructure Rating
The campus has a lot of infrastructure setup for every demands of an engineer. The labs are well kept to and you will find the staff to be very helpful and eager to help you during experiments and your own projects. Many have used the labs for the benefits of their projects, works, etc. It is one of the best things about this campus.
 

Campus Rating
Campus Life has taken a nosedive lately since the director has demanded that a curfew to be put on 11 ‘o’ clock. Before that this was a campus brimming with night life where there is always somebody awake 24/7. The canteens were also instructed to be open till 1 AM for the student’s convenience. But now it's not sure whether the campus will continue to go on like this.

    I recently completed my first year in NIT Calicut and I can say that my first year was perfect. You can get admission in NIT Calicut through JOSAA counselling if you have good rank in all India JEE examination. First year was full of enjoyment as academically there is not so much pressure.     After one year of hard work in entrance coaching, I got into NIT Calicut. Since I have entered here, I think my life is somewhat busy. I chose this institute because it has promising placements and it is near my home. There are many programs in institute to keep you engaged throughout the year.     I joined NIT Calicut after securing my admission through JOSAA after scoring good marks in examination. I chose this institute since it is near to my home. The campus is so beautiful and every now and then, there is a program in the institute, which I think, does not happen in most institutes.     I chose Electronic and Communication Engineering. I chose this branch as it is in 5th in rank among all the other NITs. The campus life in is so good. Even though we have so much work, life here is very good and calm. You will never regret choosing this one.
