Dayananda Sagar University MBA Review By Sai Nithin

First of all, I don’t understand why engineering colleges or Universities have started MBA at their Universities. The University was close to my residence and because MBA is demanding I thought Dayananda Sagar University is a better choice. You will only hear good things about the University like I did and didn’t realize that they all have done engineering from there. Besides that also there were many reasons like the world-class facilities and environment at the University, job guarantee, and one of the best labs. DSU University is one of the most reputed universities in Bangalore but there are many cons for MBA at the University. Some engineering faculty members were hired to teach us technical aspects of the MBA. This was so irresponsible as the management just looked at their experience but didn’t realize that this will not do any good and rather made us invest time in things which are of no help for us now. The University has way too many students and therefore the lack of facilities is natural. Even MBA students had to wait to get their turn for computer labs. In my opinion, either the University should discontinue MBA or bring in the right facilities for the students.

MBA means we will be taught for 30 minutes in the classrooms and then will be handed a case study which we had to submit in the next few days. The faculty or anybody from the University won't be there to help us out as Google has all the answers, you can help yourself. We made a student union and complained about it to the management but they didn’t listen to our demands and started calling us rebels. DSU’s school of commerce and management is a piece of scrap that needs to be revamped.

The faculty was below mediocre because they never explained us anything in detail and we were not even supposed to question them much. Since it’s an autonomous University, we knew that we will at least be awarded the degree, and hence rather than developing skills which are what an MBA student is known for decided to make books my best friend and just scored well at the exams. Luckily the faculty gave me good marks in internals as well and also praised my half-completed projects. The pedagogy was so old-fashioned from an MBA point of view.

Like many Universities in Bangalore, DSU has made friends with some industries that came and interviewed us. Finance students are being forced to join IT companies as there were only those. The only bright spot in all this was that we had placements worth 5-6 lakhs and almost all of us because none of us failed so the companies were happy that we have passed with good CGPAS. The University’s rapport played a crucial role in the placements otherwise if it was on merit I don’t think anybody would have had the jobs they had.

Dayananda Sagar University Hostels are inside the campus. There were quite a few hostels and the hostel is the best option for the students as even though it’s expensive finding PGs and flats in the area will cost much higher. I haven’t seen the hostel from inside because otherwise, the security is low at the campus but when it comes to hostel security it’s quite high. You can’t enter without an I-Card and if you want to meet your hostel friends, they will come out but you can’t go inside. The curfew time again was 8.30 pm for the boy’s hostel. There is also a DSI International hostel for international students. The fees of the hostel from what I heard was double than the normal boys and girls hostel fees.

There are over 1000 bikes parked and space is not enough to park 500 even. The parking area has to be extended because if you take such a heavy intake then make parking arrangements too. The labs are the best even though we had to wait to get inside the computer labs but once we are in, I never felt like coming out. Fully air-conditioned computer labs with hybrid computers and all the latest software’s decreased the time that it takes to complete the project otherwise. The food joints at the campus were good as there plethora of options. Students from any part of the country can find at least one dish from his/her state at the food courts of the University. The cricket ground will give you the feel of playing at a stadium as it had stands and girls used to hoot their favourite players. The cricket ground was always occupied because if you had the talent it will help you gain some female attention.

I could see the frustration in everyone because the quality of education was way below par. If I leave out that part though everything about the University is above par. The fest of the University had the participant from all 3 University campuses. NRI’s presence was quite high at the university and that was one of the most attractive parts of the campus. For engineering students, the University can be paradise as technical fests and projects presentation kept happening but for MBA students it was completely the opposite.
