Bhubaneswar is the education hub for the people of Odisha. There are hundreds of colleges that have pioneered in the educational field and among them, BJB College stands to be one of the best. I always wanted to pursue my graduation from the top college of the state and to my fortune, I landed at the best college. Pursuing a degree at an honors level in this college is a matter of pride for many undergraduates. The cutoff list is always close to the top colleges of the country and no reason that the quality of education and opportunities are the prime reason for it.
Every honors subject has four different cores and for each core, we are allowed four different teachers who are specialized in those topics. There is the head of the department for every subject and he or she takes care of the decorum of the department. The teachers teach very well, provide quality materials, and conduct revision and doubt clearing classes. There are specific library provisions for individual departments. Since the backdrop of the pandemic, online classes are held regularly and all the subjects are well taught.
The faculties have exceptional educational backgrounds. All of them are PHDs on the respective subjects they teach. The teachers are friendly and are always eager to solve every dubious encounter students face. They are punctual, regular and use application-based concepts to make students understand better. The lecturers motivate students for their future and always interact with students in a friendly manner. For my department, the teachers always help me understand the concepts clearly. The associate professors are also great at teaching and act the same way as the regular professors.
Since, the college from where I am pursuing my degree has only three preferences, i.e., Arts, Science, and Commerce, the placements are not captivating. It is difficult for students to get placements from backgrounds other than science. Since the demand for regular graduates who are from a non-technical background in the service sector is less, placement has been tremendously affected. MNCs and other big companies recruit engineering graduates mostly and this creates a shortage of seats for us. However, we mostly aspire for higher education and opt services of our preference.
Government hostels are government-funded and the hostels are quite hygienic. Most of the hostels are available to the backward classes and children having other quotas. Some hostels are reserved for women as well. For general students, there are no hostels and most of them have to reside in private hostels. On the campus, there are four hostels. The hostels are quite good, the food is quite average. The best thing is that the food is timely delivered and the items are mostly on the demands of the students. The hostel wardens are liberal and help students in getting their required accessories. The hostel charges are genuine and make sure that there is no occurrence of an illegitimate affair.
The college has two parts. One for graduation and the other for Higher Secondary schooling. The school campus is differently located and the main campus faces the old town. It is sprawling, the buildings are huge and have also undergone certain constructions. There are sectional divisions based on departments. There are three blocks. Arts Block, Science Block, and Commerce Block. The blocks are quite gargantuan, having libraries, classrooms, practical rooms, examination halls, halls for cultural programs, and offices for lecturers and principals. There are huge playgrounds and an indoor hall for outdoor and indoor sports. There is a statue of the great freedom fighter Buxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar, after whose name the college is named.
Overall, the college stands to be one of the best colleges in the state, so the campus is quite good. There are efficient securities at the entrance. Everything is peacefully carried. We have college uniforms and identity cards. Discipline is the prime goal of the college. There are regular cultural programs, seminars, and webinars held. There are student volunteers, department representatives, and cultural heads. There are specific provisions for parking and transport as well.
