RNS Institute of Technology B.Tech Review By Kunal Arora

I was labeled as Nerd right from my school days, and therefore even after getting admission in few other colleges, I chose RNS Institute of Technology. The college is located at the far end of Kengeri. The campus was huge and boring at the same time. The admission process is through Comed-K score, and luckily quota for outsiders is enough. I found many students from the Northern States, and that never made me feel left out in a state that has a completely different culture than us. One of the biggest turn off at the campus was that there's no seating arrangement at the campus, and if by chance you find space and sit at the campus, you will be immediately asked to evacuate. The college had a simple rule that either sit in the class or go out of the campus. For EC placements for undergraduates were strong but never do post-graduate from here. During placements, I realized that companies feel like paying double to M.Tech students is of no use as they have spent two extra years doing nothing. I liked that though, as I planned to do M.Tech, but that changed my thought process. One will find mixed culture students here, and that was one of the brightest things about the college.

I enrolled for B. E. in 2011, and as I have mentioned earlier, Comed-K is the entrance that one has to clear to get admissions here. I always wanted to do engineering and RNSIT was not on my top list but looking at the location and everything, I was happy to join this college. As soon as I learned about the strictness, I was even happy as Bangalore is not just famous for studies but also for the brats that come here. Most of the students coming here just for fun to have a gala time for three, four years and go back after having fun. Coming from a family of educationalists, I was always serious and had no regrets that I joined one of the most under-rated colleges of Bangalore.

My hopes were a little high, but if one be realistic, they won't find any flaw with the professors. Most of the professors have done their post-graduation, and some were even PhD. I can't go on without mentioning about H. N. Shivashankar, sir, who was one of the biggest blessings of the college. Some of them were poor but all in all, the faculty was above average.

Bangalore means IT, and they were the ones who offered us decent jobs. The internship was also given on merit, and only 3 out of 10 had the opportunity of internship. The placements were close to 100%; the only condition is that you have to clear all the semesters on time. Companies like Infosys, TCS, Wipro, Capgemini Careers, and Infotech were among the top companies that hired most students. In the EC department, one of the students fetched a job worth 18 lakhs with Byju's when it was still a new company. Average placements were 5 lakhs around.

There are 2 boys and one girl’s hostel inside the campus. The hostel building was good but the furniture inside the rooms was poor. Rooms were awarded on twin and triple sharing but rather than beds, the college provided cots. Even the chairs quality was poor and cupboards handles were broken. Due to the presence of many north Indian students, there were 3 mess operational at the college. One offered a north Indian menu, and that gave me a lot of comforts as I hardly missed home for food. The boy's hostel building also had a library and a browsing centre. Inside the hostel building, there were 4 guest rooms and if parents visited, they can stay there at a nominal price.

The buildings of the campus are more or less monotonous as all buildings will look the same. Not just the buildings but even the tiles used in all buildings are the same. The campus is huge as the area of the campus is over 100 acres. Among facilities, students can open a zero-maintenance account at the college's Canara Bank branch, which is inside the campus. The canteen was upkeep as it had both south Indian and north Indian dishes. A special juice counter was also available, and there's hardly anything outside the campus. There's also an ice-cream parlour at the campus. There are two playgrounds on the campus, but you will hardly find anyone playing at the playgrounds. A lot of permission is required to play at the grounds as they are maintained just to host sports day and inter-college matches.

Cultural activities were not done on a large scale, but just like every college, the college does celebrate all the festivals inside the campus. Even Christmas is celebrated inside the campus with great joy. I was a shy guy and remained that as there's no compulsion that one has to participate. I was happy enjoying everything from the backseat as time off having some entertainment was also necessary.
