IMS Unison University BBA Review By Mahesh Yadav

IMS is a good university and BBA program may not get you placement but is good to give you exposure. Quaint city, Dehradun is known for schooling and colleges but lacks far behind when it comes to placement. This is a known fact but still, students from various or should I say almost all states come and study here. IMS may not be as popular as rest of the universities of the city but is good in terms of education and infrastructure. The university is comparatively quite small than the other universities of the state but less in-take of student means that teachers were able to know students at a personal level. I was happy with the BBA program of the university as placement was not my only criteria but getting help and guidance for further was my main motto. I got enough help and resources at the university to prepare for that and I can say that IMS has helped me achieve my goals.

BBA is a 3 years course in India and it was the same in IMS. Divided in semesters, we would have exams in December and May every year. The last year was when we had to choose specific subjects and finance was my forte. Along with course, we were also taught from the books of BSE and some case studies related to markets were assigned for projects. BBA’s final year was similar to how I approached my studies in MBA and if first two years were fun the final year surely was a tough one as we stayed away from all the glam and razzmatazz of the university.

Overall, it’s the satisfaction that matters and I was more than satisfied with our faculties as they would reach out to each student personally and guide them on what subjects we should choose. Students had to make the final call but if someone with huge amount of experience can have their say then why not. Not just the studies but faculty also encouraged us to take part in extracurricular activities as well. They would not shy away from helping us with our doubts on entrance exams that we could prepare alongside BBA.

Placements were poor as not even 30% of the students got placed from the campus. It wasn’t that tough to find a job off-campus but campus placements were poor. Most of the students were engaged with higher studies entrances and even the university was happy as they had to take care of lesser students for placements. No placement cell intervention as they were happy assisting PG students. Same companies had some minor jobs for which BBA students were hired for a salary as low as 20k per month. ROI is the main theme of placement and on that front the university has failed.

IMS University has flats kind of system than the normal hostel rooms. A couple of bathrooms in each apartment and 6 boys stayed in one hostel. Everyone had a separate bed and separate study table. Hostel had few too many rules to follow. We couldn’t even use induction cooker inside the rooms as no appliances from outside were allowed to use inside the hostel rooms. The curfew time was 10pm and meals had to be taken only at the dining hall. If someone is caught taking food to their rooms, they will be fined heavily. One can’t even play loud music in their rooms and even birthday celebrations remained a mild affair. There were water coolers on each floor and cameras were installed to maintain the security. Only vegetarian food was served in lunch and dinner and eggs were served in breakfast.

Just 12 acres in which all four institute of the college are located. Our academic block was the management school of the university. The three-floor building had a library on the 1st floor and also the teacher’s staffroom. Library was good as it had all the books and research papers required not just for BBA but for preparing for MBA entrances. The university canteen had just a few items but university had tie up with some caterers who would bring their food trucks inside the campus and offered us a huge variety from south Indian to Pasta, we could have them all at those food trucks. Day scholars had to leave the campus by 7 pm and hostellers had to come back by 10 pm. There were indoor sporting facilities as one small playground was not even enough to play Cricket as many times the ball would enter the buildings and we were severely punished when it happened.

IMS doesn’t have a Hollywood Yawl kind of an atmosphere. Not so happening students and therefore more than the events, it was counseling that happened. Annual events weren’t that great an affair as most students had their plans stacked up during the cultural event night.
