My experience in DJ was quite enjoyable and CS department of the college is indeed quite rocking. Talking about the best engineering colleges in Mumbai, IIT-Bombay is definitely the most sought after one but with limited seats and immense competition getting a seat there was beyond me. DBIT and Sardar Patel College of Engineering were the other two choices that I was targeting but after getting choice between DJ Sanghvi and Sardar Patel, I chose DJ Sanghvi. There’s something about SVKM’s trust that their colleges are quite happening. Mostly the Gujarati rich brats and even the outsiders were mostly from Gujarat. In Mumbai, you can’t avoid having Gujarati’s as your friends and I had picked up this knack of living between them since the childhood. This made my college life as good as it could. DJ Sanghvi was not just about scoring excellent marks and rote learning, it was beyond that. Engineering students get full 360 degree features such as organizing events on own, doing projects with 3-4 years horizon and submitting thesis on what we have picked up. The college gives student enough freedom to express themselves and that was the beauty of DJ Sanghvi.
In engineering classes are as important as the practicals. Both the aspects of academics that are classes and practicals were mandatory to attend as there weren’t many doubts solving sessions. Extra classes were organized but not at will and therefore one has to be regular otherwise he/she will always be behind the 8th ball mark. Rote learning was never a part of academics and that added feather to the beautiful education culture that the college has. Academics can match hands with hands with all the top colleges of the country.
DJ Sanghvi has hired some of the most intellectual people on the planet for teaching. Faculty were never after our academics but also encouraged us to be a part of extra curriculum activities. Keeping a balance between both is vital in engineering and the college has made sure that they maintain that. Attendance was managed by them and before sending the attendance sheet to the seniors they would consult the students beforehand if anyone has lesser attendance. A genuine reason will make sure that your actual attendance never reaches the top brass. They were supportive only if we supported them by scoring good marks and being a little extra attentive during the classes.
Placements especially of CSE department were tremendous. All your super dream companies like Coforge, Morgan Stanley, E&Y, and Morgan Stanley have been regular recruiters at DJ Sanghvi. Some of them have even sponsored the students for higher studies. The average placement was round about 5 lakhs and some lucky ones even had the privilege of taking international jobs from the campus worth 4-5 times of the average placements. In Mumbai though 5 lakh is a petty amount and that was the only reason I didn’t took up the job which I got from the campus.
Unfortunately, the college doesn’t provide student a hostel facility and that’s a laggard. This is the main difference between Engineering Colleges in Pune and Mumbai as Pune has a hostel in almost all their colleges while most of the colleges in Mumbai don’t have this facility. There were outsiders but staying near Juhu is costly and students had to stay at Borivali and Kandivali and had to invest 2-3 hours daily in travelling. At premises it’s not possible to have a hostel but at least if they can arrange one close to the college, it will only help their cause.
World class for sure is an understatement as DJ Sanghvi believes in changes and they keep updating the college with new colors and labs. Building was shining as it was painted a year before I joined. The labs were up-to-date and college auditorium needs to have a serious look at. A small cafeteria was good enough for refreshment. An old English theatre styled where a huge stage with some of the best lighting system imported straight from Belgium. The recreation room was a disappointment as the TV was broken, the sofas were torn and the TT tables have enough cracks in them to be changed immediately. It didn’t though and that was the only misery in infrastructure otherwise, I was happy with the overall infrastructure.
A little dictatorship from the management was displeasing but otherwise the college had the best seniors. Many students have participated at many national level competitions and our college too was a host of one such event during my tenure at the college. Enjoying with friends having fun with faculty during the lectures and the college events made it difficult to bid adieu to the college when I finally had to.

However, there are many myths as well about the college which are all not true as some of your dreams will be shattered because college is not so great in all... Read Full Review
