I always wanted to be an electrical engineer, and the JSS ECE branch is just unique. For students coming from other states, COMEDK is the way to be. For locals like us, KCET was also acceptable. JSS is one of the best universities in the state, and being a private engineering college, the seats are also high. Even among such a high crowd, one thing guaranteed is that all will get equal opportunities. Even if you have the slightest inclination in electronics, join JSS as they will develop your passion to learn more about it. I am saying this from my experience as I was in a bit of dilemma choosing CSE or ECE. I made a wise decision, so I am not regretting my decision.

Every semester, you will have to study a minimum of seven subjects and in some semesters, even eight. Besides that, two to three labs and a minimum of four projects every semester. There are a maximum of 6 subjects each semester and at max two labs for other branches. Thus, ECE is more demanding than the rest but highly interesting. You might get frustrated at times as other students spend 25-30 hours a week while you will have to spend a minimum of 38-40 hours a week. So, think twice before you join ECE, as the course is only for hardcore fans of ECE or who want to do something in electronics.

I am sad to say this, but the faculty was not student-friendly as they had to get done with the vast portions. They always pushed the limits and ensured students were always on the paddle. The faculty was also quite strict as the journey of ECE was not smooth. A few things that I learned beforehand from the faculty were working hard, and that bookish knowledge will not take you anywhere. Practical of each and everything was taught because as the old cliché says, one can't learn swimming just by reading swimming techniques. Likewise, ECE is more practical learning, and faculty will not let you beat around the bush during the classes.

Placements were excellent, but a massive gap between the paycheques of many. The companies that came to hire our branch include Philips Electronics, Bosch India, 3M India, Bajaj Electronics, etc. The best part was that students were placed in core companies, and that's more than enough for motivation. Due to a grading system, students were purely given jobs on their report cards more than anything else. This pay disparity meant many students avoided the job because the jobs offered were as low as 2.8 lakhs per annum, to some students getting nearly 20 lakhs an annum. The college should set a minimum benchmark because this pay disparity is insane.

There are seven boys’ hostels in all at the campus. UG and PG hostels are separate, and UG students don't have a choice of single rooms as 2, 3, and 4 seater rooms are allotted to UG students while PG students can enjoy a single room. Two girl's hostels are at the campus, while one girl's hostel is about 2 miles from the college. I was a localite, and as per all university rules, locals are not allowed to stay at the hostels unless they are in IITs or NITs. The hostel students enjoyed a lot as most students in JSS are outsiders, hostels were the best choice.

Infrastructure comprises of many buildings, sports grounds, multiple auditoriums, a library, and hostels inside the college campus. The buildings need just a bit of painting because they have been made tech-enabled from the inside. All the classrooms are digital, and so is the latest digital library, which started in 2013. There are enough points at the campus to chill together with friends. The student zone will see students running clubs and planning their activities. The canteen was little small in context of the number of students. A good coffee shop that served some of the best coffee brewed straight from the coffee plants of Coorg. There is a lovely atmosphere all around with a nice covering of trees from three sides of the campus.

Once if you have become a part of college clubs, you will simply love spending extra hours at the college. The debate club was always active, and all new innovation's pros and cons were debated in the club. Once if you have participated in Jayciana, then you won't be holding back. Your fellow mates will hoot for you right throughout. To perform, many celebrities have been called upon every year, and in 2019, my favorite Jubin Nautiyal was called along with Shirley Setia to perform. I seriously doubt if I can even imagine a better campus life than JSS.
