JSS Science and Technology University M.Tech Review By Sahaj Singh

The old war horse is the best term for JSS, S&TU. One needs good score in GATE to get here. I had the option of availing some Colleges from Bengaluru but I still went for JSS S&TU as the old war horse will never fail is what I was sure about. I had the season of my life at JSS-S&TU because all those that I missed at UIIT, I learned it all at JSS-S&TU. Infosys having their head operations in Mysore and sending their team of experts to monitor students and teach us all that they needed, it made our lives simpler. Infosys had played a huge factor in JSS-S&TU's success. The University has blood in a lot of young faculties because CSE specializations are a modern thing and modern professors are required to ensure students get the best learning. They have risen to the occasion like a fire and have instilled a lot of skills in us. There were a lot of butterfly effect moment at the campus of JSS S&TU and I will try to give a review so that everyone has a fair idea why this University is so highly regarded.

All the observations of academics at JSS-S&TU is making me a little nervous to write. I wish there was one weak moment, but trust me, there was none. Academics here can be called number crunchers because there were no fixed lectures during a day. On days there were 4-odd lectures and on some, there were 7. I noticed a lot of new trends here because programmers can easily call this place a paradise. But there are some things, I mean, some of the things that I saw, and the first thing that struck me is increasing the dependence on experts who used to come every week and see if what we were taught is correct and enough or not. One thing that was clear with JSS S&TU's academics is that anchoring will be getting diminished from CSE as all the computer science engineers that were required have already been hired. So, what is the need of the hour? It's a specialization, and JSS-S&TU's, Artificial Intelligence program was one of those.

The faculties of the future have been cited well by the University, as many of those quality professors were roped in. It is the young and dynamic professors who kind of do things the way modern-day students need. The academics came through because of them as the faculty of the University, to me, the season of the University. In future the faculties, who I can say inexperienced because most of them had 2-5 years of teaching experience, but their improvisations were such that they are the future of professorship.

Placements were inevitable at JSS as out of 73 students that we had in our specialization, 50 of us were hired by Infosys itself. So, let's not go to figure crunchers because even if the placement figures were low, the College's strike rate in terms of placing students was, is, and will always be good. For me, the placements part was very well handled and that's the reason why so many students of the University get placed in just one or two interviews.

There are 5 blocks of hostels and PG block was separate which only had M. Tech and MCA students. The block is small as the capacity of PG hostel is a shade over 150. All rooms were double seaters in the PG block and the fees were reasonable too. The hostel has three to four messes and we were free to choose the mess we wanted. There was a vegetarian mess as students who had reservations against eating in a mess that serves non-veg also had an option.

I have always believed that if a College or University does well with their infrastructure, does well overall. JSS S&TU's big campus is one of the best campuses for sure. There are many Colleges inside the campus as JSS is a huge group and they have everything in their bank. From a hospital at the campus to a mini-market for students. Infrastructure might look a little contrary to what I have seen in Colleges of North because in big campus in North Indian Universities they have almost a huge food court and various other services shops like salon, and others in their campus. While at JSS, there were workshop handles, labs building, and a world-class stadium inside the campus.

Campus life here was so stupendous that one can do both. Both as in studies and have fun at the same time, because what happens in the class stays with us for a while. So, if you are the kind who likes to relax a bit in the evening, just have to stay attentive in class and the campus things will take care of the entertainment part of those students.
