MET Institute of Management Review By Anshul Soam

MBA is inevitable and my search for that brought me to Mumbai where there is not just an Arabian Sea but a sea of opportunities too. Not comparing Delhi with Mumbai as there are many premium institutes like IMT Ghaziabad, FMS Delhi, IILM Institute, and many more. MET was more out of curiosity as it has a management quota and for average students like me who aren’t as sharp who can crack the entrances, MET serves as the best possible options. MET is located in Bandra which is one of the most happening places among the suburbs. The campus is of one building but the building itself is a world of its own. MET has many different programs and the one I did was MMS. It’s Master of Management Studies which was a completely new term for me because I have ever in my life did hear about such a course. The college’s placements are also better than the colleges that compete with MET.

The blend of academic and extra-curricular activities at MET was amazing. Classes wouldn't have been missed at any cost as the attendance is more than compulsory. During our time, the new director was appointed, and the model of academics was changed. The change was beneficial as including extra-curricular activities as a part of studies was his idea. The course was designed so well that the entire third semester we were free for taking an internship for as long as we want. Two months was mandatory, and those who wished to extend beyond that got NOC from the college. One can do anything at MET but deviate themselves from academics.

From management people to faulty all are well qualified. Like faculty of many other colleges, MET’s faculty too were knowledgeable and approachable. All of them lived a charmed life and believed in encouraging students. The institute’s faculty was brilliant but other than that the guest faculty from corporate world was invited to give us expectations of corporate world. Extra lectures were arranged on demand. The first day itself, I realized that I would be up for many good things in my life if I could grasp 10% of what they have in them. Their aura and personality can charm anyone, and that is why the faculty of NITK deserves a standing ovation.

Placements at MET is like a matter of time because, you know, eventually, they will happen. Over a dozen top companies and then some midcap companies took great care of the students. Please don't believe in those speculated figures of highest package of 40 Lakhs per annum and all. I was there and heard the same stories but trust me, nothing like that happens. It can happen once in a blue moon, but not in reality. The third semester was all about internship and the beginning of the fourth semester was all about placements. So, well before we had degrees on our hands, we had a job guaranteed for us.

Like Delhi, Mumbai colleges too hardly have a hostel. There are many colleges in Bandra so finding an apartment wasn’t that tough as the PG culture doesn’t exists much in Mumbai. Rents are like Hong Kong or Dubai as Mumbai is as expensive as those cities. Mumbai is about affordability because renting an apartment can be a costly affair and the men’s private hostels of the city are in dire conditions.

A small parking area is followed by the main building. This is where the infrastructure of the college starts and ends at the top floor of the building that has a MET World of Music. You must be wondering what is that but MMA or MBA are stressful course and music is a stress buster. So, whenever we felt like we need some break, we could go there and enjoy the music of our choice. On the second last floor there was a room called MET World of Sports. Many brain challenging games along with table tennis, chess and carom were available there. Nearly four to five rooms combine made Sports rooms. Right next to the sports room was the canteen. We had to practice for virtual conferences and they were done in state-of-the-art conference room. The institute was compact in terms of area but in terms of facilities it was as good as anything.

Daily 8-10 hours were spent at the campus. MMS is a rigours course and therefore the break during the classes were the best part of our campus life. MET has many more institutes and all of them gather once in a year for MET UTSAV which was held at Nashik in 2018 and in 2019, it was in Mumbai. It was a great fun as getting to visit many other campuses. The campus life was rigorous at times but had a lot of fun at MET eventually.
