Graphic Era Hill University BBA Review By Shams Khan

Many people don’t even know that Graphic Era University has one more separate college GEHU (Graphic Era Hill University). In deemed university, the fees are quite high while in GEHU, Uttarakhand students get a 25% concession on fees. Even though Hill is small university compared to GEU, the number of courses in Hill are higher than that of GEU. BBA though is available in both the universities but because of the fees discount, I chose GEHU on GEU. There are a lot of choices for colleges in Dehradun but Graphic Era stands out as one can see the number of outsiders that comes to this university every year for studies. UP students seem like have made this as their second home. The entire Subhash Nagar has now become a student dominated area because of these two universities. The university is magnificent in all the departments other than the placements.

Semester system prevails in BBA course. There were 6 semesters in all and we used to have a mid-term every 2-3 months. The scores of mid-terms and projects were calculated in internals and based on that and finals, the final CGPA were counted. Studies were quite robust here as in GEU attendance are not that compulsory but at GEHU, attendance of 75% is mandatory. One has no choice but to maintain the attendance otherwise there are heavy fines for that. That’s not all as even parents of the students are called if you are a local student and if you are an outsider; your parents will receive a call for the same.

Faculties were 10 on 10 as their teaching method was spot on. Everything was to the point as syllabus was cleared a month before and the next 15 days were for doubt solving. In between too, we used to have doubt solving sessions but those 15 days almost all our doubts were cleared. Even during online classes in 2020, the doubt solving session was same as before but obviously online. Faculties were warm as they never differentiated among the students. As we were local but it's not that we had more connections with them because even the outsiders were treated the same way. One thing for sure though that if you maintain good terms with them, you will have some added advantages.

Placements are generally in final semester and unfortunately the university didn’t start operating and therefore no placements could happen. It was sad that the previous years even the placements of BBA were great. Companies like Biocon, Vindlas Biotech, Axis Bank, and ICICI securities have shared nice terms with college and along with MBA; they have also started taking BBA students with a decent package. In our batch though nothing of this sort could happen and university gave us additional discounts, to do MBA from here. This too was a great help from the university as doing MBA from other top colleges means at least 10 lakhs expenses plus the hostel expenses. So, we cherished this move from the university as MBA students got placed irrespective of lockdown.

The hostels of GEHU are off-campus as the campus is quite small. The boys' hostels and girls' hostels are close to the campus as three of the boys' hostel names were Sai Hostel, Subhas Chandra Bose Hostel, and Bhagat Singh Hostel. There were two girls' hostels too and one of them was named Marina Hostel. The hostels are newly constructed and provide rooms from triple sharing basis to single sharing basis. The curfew times of the hostel are strict and therefore one will find most students staying in PG close to the campus.

GEHU campus is small as the one main building had every facility from classrooms to auditoriums. The BBA classes were held in CR2 and CR3 respectively. There’s a small playground right next to the building. The ground is small as it is used for walks in the evening than playing. The cafeteria is at the basement of the building. There are two libraries in the building. One was on 1st floor and the other one was on 5th floor. There are around 10 labs most of which were related to engineering subjects.

GEHU and GEU have few things in common. As the university fest GRAFEST was common for both the universities and was held at GEU as it has a bigger and better campus. GEHU campus is more about studied and therefore unlike GEU where anyone can enter the campus, at GEHU entries are done only if the students carry a valid I-Card. Events were like a weekly thing as no week passed without hosting an event. GEHU organized many fairs, and workshops inside the campus to get students a free space from studies. My brother studied at Pune and even he said that he didn’t have as good a campus life that I had at GEHU.
