DBGI is a great college but for engineering colleges like DIT University, and Gurukula Kangri are better. DBGI is located far from city but in a location which will mesmerize you with its beauty. I have hardly explored other states in India as before joining the college, I just saw three Indian states but at DBGI, I got the opportunity to meet students from various states of India. DBGI see new joining from many states of India and that’s the most beautiful part of the institutions. Admission process here is simple as if you have just appeared for entrance of JEE, it will be enough. The fees here varies as students with 90% and above get scholarships as their fees is waved off significantly. So, when it comes to scholarships, the institute has done quite well and there are also scholarships for Army Personnel kids.

I was surprised to see projectors and smart boards. Many students in my class came from schools that had such facilities but not in mine. The course had far too many subjects and that was the only worry as apart from that teaching and managing our workload was done handsomely by the institute. Our portions were done well in advance as there are four exams every year. Two mid-terms and two end-terms that happens every year. Mid-Term in engineering colleges are not taken seriously but not here at DBGI as 40% weightage is what mid-term exam carries. The portions of CSE keeps changing almost every two year, so referring the old question set or seeking help of seniors is of no use.

Faculties were 50-50 as half of them were brilliant while the rest half as you all know. So, the ones on whom we could bank on did all that they could to help us out in any possible way. Since they were all Doctorates, their knowledge in the respective subjects was such that we could ask them about the future and they will have answers on them as well. Their in-depth knowledge and teaching method was equally mesmerizing as the beauty of the campus. Faculty has made the campus beautiful by developing minds that becomes creative rather than just earning a degree and getting a job.

Placements are lesser here because the in-take has increased so much. In CSE department there were 900 students. Yes nearly 100 companies were invited but even that weren’t enough to place more than 40% of the students. Extra ordinary or brilliant students nailed it and earned packages worth boasting but most students couldn’t fetch a job. One good thing was that even though I didn’t get a job but I was able to sit for 6-7 interviews and that at least gave me experience and made me confident. Over 100 mocks were organized and placement cell head whom we used to call ‘Paaji’ supported us in and out but maybe students who didn’t get the job had fault in their stars.

If I share a picture of hostel building, I bet nobody can guess that it can be a hostel building. Yes, it was that good a building. There were around 4 boys' hostel buildings and all amazing. I wasn’t a part of the hostel but we were allowed to at least enter the waiting hall of the hostels and that itself gave us idea of how good the hostels would be. I went there mostly in evening and I could see it getting cleaned. So, it is cleaned daily and you will be sure that you won’t be facing hygiene issues at the hostels. On the food part all what I received was a different narrative so some may like while some may have reservations with it.

Countless buildings at the campus and all of them just outstanding. Like the smart classrooms, the digital library was also one of those things that I saw for the first time in my life. The seminar hall was gigantic and speaking about the sporting facilities, it was again enormous. There were two sports grounds and also had separate basketball and volleyball courts. There are two cafeterias at the canteen and we had to manage from those as there were no food joints close to the campus. Infrastructure wise it was a new world not just of innovations but a world of possibilities.

One thing that hasn’t helped the institute cause is that it’s too far from the main market. So, to organize events and fests, the participation from us, by us means the students who were from Dehradun less. We had to go back after the college as the last college bus would leave at 7 pm. So, because we couldn’t give much time, and also lectures being compulsory, the campus life beyond studies was not that great. Yes, events were organized and everything happened but minimal participation was seen in those.
