University of Engineering and Management Kolkata had a lot to offer when I went through the prospectus and realized that it all seemed rosy on paper. However, students like me, who had done their research well also, knew what the students would get to experience. When I contacted some of the College seniors, I got a mixed response. But as I enrolled, it did take time for me to adjust to the campus and the teaching. Though my initial take of the campus is its size, you will soon know that the classroom premises will be the center of your time spent during the entire course schedule. As you have much to learn and projects to submit, there will be no chance to think of other activities, even if you wish so. Moreover, the educational aspect predominantly takes over any shadow of a doubt.

During online, all the seriousness that the College has had was gone, but come offline again and they have come back stronger. Engineering can’t be done online and Thank God; Colleges re-opened soon after a brief gap. Still, in my second semester and one thing that I have known is that at UEM studies will always be the thing of priority. Even before I heard that Colleges didn’t have many activities, and now because we are already behind, I don't think it’s happening anytime soon. Well, who cares though, as the city of Joy has plenty to offer, and even if we have a tough life at College, I at least don’t mind a bit.

The number of faculties who had taught us is more than reasonable. Still, getting to know them as some of them are quite reserved. They will take the class and leave upfront. The next day, though, I start a fresh with doubt solving sessions of the previous class. So, one thing that the professors here have made sure of is that before we move forward, we will fix the previous things. This is a great life lesson too, as some of the professors do bore us by giving lessons on life. The most appreciable thing about them is they always bail us out in times of crisis. They have helped me a few times and because I haven’t told them Thank You personally, I will say it now.

Since I am still in first year, I can't tell much about it. However, before joining here, I have done my research well and all I know that UEM Kolkata Placements have gone up every year. It is now neck on neck with IEM, and when our turn comes, it will overtake them. Everyone in the city and corporate today knows that drilling and grinding through which the students have to go at UEM is not done anywhere else. So, the best engineers in the city will be found none other than UEM. As of last year’s data, the average placement was 6 LPA and placement rate was around 75%. Considering it was a lockdown year, the numbers are encouraging.

Both boy's and girl's hostels are in opposite directions from the campus. The College is still new and hostel occupancy is still not as accepted. The footfall will increase in the next few years and who knows, the management might have to think on adding the hostel facilities. As of now, UEM Kolkata hostel building shines as most parts of it are untouched. At least the girl's hostel and the boy's hostel are running at full capacity, and since girls have started entering the engineering domain, the girl's hostel too will see the same turnaround ratio soon.

It’s such a pity that such a great College and such a tiny campus. I have to come 10 minutes early to park my scooter. On days I am late, I have to fight with the guard, to adjust my scooter somewhere inside the campus. The parking is that small. Even the library has a seating capacity of 100-120 students. We all are advised to go to the library, but even one branch student can’t fit in that library at one point in time. For cleanliness 11 on 10, but otherwise, the campus is small because they have increased the in-take last year and because of that, the College has become Howrah Railway Station.

Life at UEM Kolkata Campus means attending classes and going back home. Yes, the break is used well and on days we have to finish assignments or have tests we rush to the library. Otherwise, the canteen is the best place, or rather the only hangout place inside the campus. We are lucky that we have a Coffee Day Outlet even in this small campus so those who have their birthdays can't escape without a treat. Well, next is mine and I hope there’s a holiday on that day or the coffee shop announces some big discounts.
