Graphic Era Hill University BBA Review By Mohammad Hamad

'Graphic Era Hill University' is one of the best Colleges in Dehradun for higher studies. It has various types of courses. There are two Colleges under the Graphic Era i.e., Deemed and Hill. Deemed University is expensive compared to Hill University. Even though Hill University has a higher no. of courses than Deemed University, and for students from Uttarakhand there is a special concession of, I guess, 25% on the tuition fee. I opted for a BBA as I planned to do an MBA. GEHU was the best University close to my hometown Roorkee. Thus, it was a no-brainer for me because I wanted to enjoy a hostel life and at least to my knowledge, I don't know a better place than GEHU to enjoy both College and hotel life to the fullest.

The BBA course here is semester-wise. For 3-year courses, we had 6 semesters and in each semester we had a new subject. Every semester two types of exams were held i.e., mid-semester and then end-semester. Mid-semester scores were added after the successful completion of the end of sem. Viva's, seminars, and practicals are also included which helps the student to attain more knowledge and boost his/her grades. A minimum of 75% attendance is required to appear for exams. If less than 75% attendance is attained students can be charged with fines or can have difficulty appearing for the exams. So, make sure you have required attendance or must have a valid reason for not having the required attendance; otherwise, fines are quite severe here.

I can say that the faculty here is very good. They provide you with all the support and also encourage you to perform at functions or fests that take place at the University. From the studying point of view, they tend to complete the syllabus at the right time before the exams and even earlier. Almost 10-15 days are still left for the revision or for clearing any sort of doubt. Faculties here were well educated and some of them also had industrial working experience behind them.

Graphic Era Hill University doesn't hit a purple patch in terms of placements but is still decent. Students from BBA got great offers from companies like Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Tech Mahindra, Wipro, etc. The best placements were of B. Tech grabbed good offers from Amazon, Flipkart, and other companies. However, only a few students had campus placements as the rest others were advised to do an MBA from Graphic Era as they promised 100% placements from there. I took their advice and did my MBA from there and also got placed after doing an MBA.

Hostels of GEHU are the best as the best hostel of the University is Marina Hostel, which is a girls hostel. There are three hostels for boys namely Sai Hostel, Bhagat Singh Hostel, and Subash Chandra Hostel, all off-campus but in close vicinity of the University. I stayed at Sai Hostel in which rooms are shared by 4 students. The hostels are in good condition, with 24/7 water availability; every hostel has separate generators for the unplanned light cut. Hostels can be quite expensive, but they are worth being expensive. The food was good enough as fruits, sandwiches, and milk was served to students. If we stay private, we can hardly have it. This was the pure reason why my parents put forth a condition that I have to go out; I can only stay at the hostels. The curfew time is too strict as even for boys it's 8 pm.

Even though the Hill University campus and buildings are smaller than Deemed University campus, the classes are spacious enough and have good furniture. There are different classes allotted for every section of a particular class. Everything is fine, the chairs, tables, whiteboards, and projectors. Two libraries grant books for free to read and return after use. There are beautiful labs at the University in which top-notch products and pieces of equipment are available. A good Wi-Fi connection is also provided to students. There is a small ground where we can spend our free time. The basketball court, volleyball court, badminton court, and others are all in good condition. The underground café is always busy as it is the most happening area of our campus.

Both the Universities are under 'Dr. Kamal Ghanshala', the founder and owner of Graphic Era. Most of the fests and functions are performed at Deemed University as its campus is bigger than the campus of Hill. During the period of these fests and programs, students from Hill University are allowed to enter Deemed University. On our campus, a food function is organized every year and that's the only time we host students of Deemed University.
