DIT University B.Tech Review By Nandini Bohra

Leaning forward and working hard is the way how studies are done, but not at DIT. DIT is in a way an old warhorse, because the University is not new anymore, and many batches have passed out from here; but still few things remain the same here. DIT will have to reinvent itself in few areas as GEU, and Uttaranchal University too were in the same category but with such high fees and no placements, the strength of the University has seen a declining trend since the last few years. I passed out in 2020 and the excuse for placement was Covid. Well, many Colleges and Universities placements were done well before that but DIT seemed least bothered with the fact that their students are all over the places for placements and still nothing has changed. Well, if I leave placements, DIT is another planet that allows students to do crazy things and enjoy campus life to the fullest.

If there's anything that the University has remodeled, then it is its academics. The University has added an extra subject every semester and skill programs have been added too. Earlier, when I joined the University, the University was trying to finish the syllabus off at all costs. Come 2018 and a new HOD, things changed as classes were lengthened by an hour and many new things were added. I would say the University was slow at the top part of the course but is very good at the end. Last few months, even during lockdown, the classes were done as awarding a degree was not the only motive of the University but having known that students have acquired enough knowledge, was their top agenda.

The big thing about the faculty was their pace. They hardly rushed or kept on turning PPTs without explaining. They gave enough time on every PPTs that was taught in class, and until everyone nodded or said yes, the faculties didn't turn to the next slide. Faculties are backed by the management here as they have been told by HOD to go and do whatever they feel the best. Another big thing about the faculty at the University was that they remained constant as not much changing and chopping happened, which is quite common in most Universities.

I don't see a reason for answering this because out of 800+ CSE students, not more than 200 would have placed. I have maintained a good CGPA, but the interviewers rejected me on grounds best known to them. Companies like TCS, Philips, Amazon, and others have appeared for placements. I don't know which students they hire as I had friends in various other departments and everybody was in favor that DIT seriously needs to look at its placement part. Once this is taken care of, there's no way that University will be the top University in Dehradun. I am sorry for the sad story, but what's true is true and one can't sugar coat things which didn't exist.

There are two girls' hostel buildings at the University. The hostel blocks were of 5 floors and the rooms were more of an apartment. The first-year students are provided Sarojini Hostel that has a 3-seater apartment and from 2nd year onwards, we can move to 'Kasturba Hostel' which is bigger and better. The rooms of Kasturba are bigger than that of Sarojini hostels and also only 2 students are allowed to stay in Kasturba hostel rooms. The girls' hostel capacity was huge as Kasturba hostel had capacity of600 girls and Sarojini too had almost the similar capacity. Food provided was also great, but it was the curfew time that I had some issues with. 7 pm for girls and 9 pm for boys. Why this disparity still exists when girls have matched shots with boys.

The campus may not be the largest. It may not be the best, but it is the cleanest campus that one will see. Mussoorie was seen from the eyeline as from our hostel room balcony, we used to see George Everest when the skies were clear. The cafes of the campus were great as I was not into sports, so spending time at the canteen post classes was the best way to gel with friends. NCC is quite active at the campus and the University track is always full of NCC students doing running and the other drills. One can easily fall for the Infrastructure of the University because that is the biggest hook of the University.

One thing that campus life at DIT did to me was that it has made me courageous and brave. I could barely stand in front of a crowd, but at DIT, I opened up and performed with freedom at many College events. So, all in all, one will come to a party as soon as they enroll at DIT.
