IIT Dharwad is new but not forever

Overall Rating
Overall Experience is Quite good but My Institute lacks in some aspects, like small campus area built till now and some facilities like lack of outdoor sports grounds, difficulty in transportation to main city, etc. Anyone with low rank in JEE Advanced around 16-17k can get into my Institute which is a good thing. I chose this Institute and the branch chemical as per my rank and for an emerging IIT can provide many opportunities. It also has low competition in comparison to other IIT’s.
 

Academics Rating
I chose Chemical and Biochemical Engineering because of my interest in Chemistry. This course is integrated with Biology for matching the needs of biology used in today's era. Eligibility criteria is Clearing JEE Advanced with a minimum rank of 16-17k for general and for computer Science it is around 4-5K rank. There are total of four exams taken in one semester including one Mid Semester and one End Semester exam. There are many Hands-On experiments that give the teaching of real life industry works.
The fees is around Rs. 3,00,000 per year which contains Rs. 2,00,000 of Tuition Fee. Rs. 40-50,000 is charged for Hostel and Mess Fee and other Registration, Management and Deposits for Gym, Library and Hospital. Scholarships are available for student in OBC, EWS,ST, SC Category that waives off tuition fees of Rs. 2,00,000 and General Students whose parental income is less than Rs. 7,00,000 per annum can also apply for Scholarships. There are Several merit based scholarships, some girl education initiatives, also ST, SC students can get there mess fee waived.
 

Faculty Rating
Faculties and Professors are Highly qualified and have years of experience. There are many set-ups in our classroom including projector, Blackboard and whiteboard. Main method of teaching is first theory and then some problems. Teacher to student ratio varies in different branches like in older branches like Computer Science, Mechanical and Electrical it is around 1:60 but in newer branches it is around 1:30. Due to Small size of batches enrolled the class is highly interactive with faculties.
 

Placement Rating
There is a cell present known as Career Development Cell (CDC) of IIT Dharwad that manages the placements and internships. The Career Development Cell approaches the Companies and then the company starts recruiting the student in the placement season. There are many companies that visits our campus like HCL, Infosys, Wipro, Siemens, Capgemini, etc. The average package goes around 15-16 lakh per annum with a percentage placement rate of 70-80%. The highest is around 60 lakh per annum as per 2024.
 

Hostel Rating
Institute is having residential facilities which compulsorily need to be taken by every student of IIT Dharwad. There are two hostels and one mess. Rooms are quite big because of the four sharing system. Boys and girls hostels are different and are not connected to access. Mess food is served 4 times a day including 2 main meals and 2 snacks. Hostel and mess fee is roughly Rs. 40-45k per year. Hostel has no rules on timings as you can roam anywhere but in campus premises only.
 

Infrastructure Rating
Our campus contains 2 academic blocks, one for engineering and one for science related courses. The Classes are held in a building named central learning theatre (CLT) which contains classes and auditoriums. Campus size is huge but only one-third area is built till now and rest construction is ongoing. The present buildings are made with State of the art infrastructure. The Institute also contains a reserved forest of 65 acres area. My personal favorite place is library which is best for studying quietly and with comfort.
 

Campus Rating
Campus life is great with a great coding culture, many fests, events and festivals organized every year. Many artists are invited every year to perform stand ups, music shows and dance. There are many clubs associated varying from tech to cultural to sports that also train for inter-IIT Competitions. Parsec is our Annual Tech-Fest that comes with various events in coding that is enhanced with food, music and DJ Night. Also General-Championships are organized for sports and cultural competitions.

    IIT Dharwad is one of the 3rd generation IITs that started in 2016. In 2023, we shifted to the permanent campus, which is spread over 470 acres. It is still under development, but most of the academic blocks and hostels are ready. The campus is calm, full of greenery, and the weather here is really good.     This institute is best for the students with a less rank JEE Advanced. It has decent placements, good campus life and a good infrastructure. Sports and hostel facilities are great too.     This is the best part which we all like. We have one of the best faculties coming from IIT Bombay to teach us. Many of our professors did their Ph.D from esteemed universities of India and abroad. Also, here professor are quiet young so the interaction with students are easy. Professors are helpfully and always ready to clear your doubts and you can access them anytime. Labs and workshops have all the modern equipment and our library contains all the books that you need for your academic courses... Read Full Review

    Pro: - Newly build hostels and campus. Great human diversity. New and very good labs. Ragging free campus and very health culture between seniors and juniors.     Overall Rating
    The name tag of IIT is enough to draw attention from many institutes. I qualified JEE Advanced and got into IIT Dharwad in 2022. As it is one of the third-generation IITs, the expectations were not high before joining this institute, but after joining it, my perspective of this institute has changed a lot. The students who get into any IITs are full of different skills and creativity. This is the biggest plus-point why anyone should join one of the most premieres institutes of our country....
