Silicon University Bhubaneswar: Fees, Academics and Placements

Overall, the Silicon University felt a little short for the fees we give. Faculties are good. Some are great. There is Free Wi-Fi. Campus is moderately big. The library is good. It has a Decent environment. Attendance wise it is strict. Exams are moderately difficult, can pass with moderate amount of efforts. You don't have to study throughout the years to ace the exam. Just have to be consistent. Canteen and campus is nice and clean. Newer rooms are well furnished and classy. Older ones are decent too. Hostel and food is quite expensive. Education and campus placement wise good college. Focuses on providing good value to companies that come for placement, hence is strict with studies for the most parts. But yes it does costs a lot as for me coming from a lower middle class background of family.

I chose CSE as a lateral entry. I previously completed diploma. So I joined in second year. I gave the exam of OJEE and through the ranks and selection procedure of it, I was selected and I was allotted this university. As I got 2456 rank in OJEE, bracket for government university CSE branch ends in under 200 for general so there was no way I could get into government college. So in terms of private and decently expensive university with a good background in quality education and placement I picked Silicon University. After allotment I came to university to fill the application and information and fee payments. Nothing except OJEE rank was needed. Exams are organised twice per semester. Mid semester for 25 marks. End semester for 60 marks then 15 marks for assignment and subject and all. As for real life, the education system is always behind in technology but yes it does provides a good base to begin with learning new technologies.

The fees per semester at Silicon University costs Rs. 1, 05,000. This includes all fees. An admission fee is extra Rs. 10,000 one time. Nothing else aside this. No discount or scholarship from university side is provided. 4 year course costs Rs. 8, 40,000. There is separate fee for hostel and mess.

Faculty members at Silicon University are overall decent. What I meant is there are some you would love to study and some would make you get bored in class. Some who can make learning easy to understand while helping build a strong foundation, ones who come with experience that shines bright in terms of how they teach. You would enjoy their classes and talks and they will be worth remembering for their ways of teaching and stories. Classes have projectors, they all have blackboards too. Decent but outdated lab equipment. Teacher to student ratio is typically around 1:70. Like in our class 68 students so that explains an average. Some have like 90. Some faculties are great at problem solving as I said above they are the good ones. Some faculties are easily approachable and sweet.

Placement cell is fairly okay. It does help students getting like 7+ CGPA get into various companies. As of last year maximum package was of 21 LPA and average is around 5 LPA with placement rate of 60 percent. I am sure about placement rate. Companies like Flipkart, Capgemini, TCS and similar companies do come every year.

Yes, University does have own hostel, cafeteria, veg and non veg mess, playground, gym etc. Boys and girls separate hostels and buildings are present in the campus. Mess food I haven't eaten as I am a day scholars but as heard from hostellers who are friends, it's good, provides variety but is expensive for what they paid. Hostel fees are around Rs. 40,000 and Rs. 60,000 for non AC and AC rooms respectively. Mess costs extra Rs. 42,000 annually.

Campus of Silicon University is divided into few sections. Three main buildings, then girls hostel building, cafeteria, veg mess and then boys hostel with gym and non veg mess. Then field and stage is also available in the campus. Classrooms are of two types. Old ones they have projectors and normal old school benches of Iron and wood ones with plastic chair. New ones come with well furnished and classy looks both have projectors and can seat over 70 students. Canteen is normal hotel like, nothing exquisite. It is simple and works like buffet system. Sports has basketball and football field then equipment are nice and overall good for sports. For transport university has busses. No extra costs for bus as it is included in fees. It cannot be excluded whether you take it or not. Security, guards are always present at gates. Cameras are everywhere. Overall experience is good but feels congested sometimes as campus isn't that big but it has like 5-6 floors. The university building also has lift facilities for the students.

Campus life is average. Attendance is must here. Minimum 80 percent has to be maintained by all students else answerable to HoDs. The crowd of Silicon University sometimes feels a bit too much. As I said above. There are many clubs and there are certain events always happening, these are enough to keep you occupied throughout the year. One might need some balance to participate in all. Else it can be tough. Inter university competitions are too organised here. Fests and events are good. Overall, it is good and not bad.
