My Campus Experience at IIT Bhilai: Academics, Sports, & Placements

Overall Rating
When I joined the institute, it had temporary campus with only 30 acres of land. It was a small campus but it was beautiful. It had all the facilities, which an IIT should have. I chose this institute through my JEE Advanced rank. It was a small institute with limited number of teachers and students so here connections/bond could be made with almost all the people residing in the campus.
 

Academics Rating
I chose Electrical course. I wanted CSE but due to my low rank, I could not get. To get admission one needs to clear JEE Main then JEE Advanced and then apply for counseling through website. Then the individual get the seats in the institute and in the end, they have to complete all the registration documents. It conducts 3 exams per semester. It introduces us to real life problem and how can we solve them.
IIT Bhilai takes Rs. 1,50,000 per semester that includes tuition fee of Rs. 1,00,000, mess fee of Rs. 24,000, hostel fee of Rs. 8,000, Rs. 7,000 as a caution money and remaining for others. There is a merit cum scholarship for the topper of each batch and SC/ST scholarship. SC/ST gets full waiver in tuition fee.
 

Faculty Rating
All the faculties were expert in his/her field and all come from 5 and more years of experience of teaching in reputed institutes. They use PPTs and group discussion with quizzes to teach. The teacher student ratio was 1:50. All the faculties were friendly so I was close with almost all of them including all teachers of other department also.
 

Placement Rating
The placements in IIT Bhilai were decent. Placement cell reaches out to the companies and ask them to take part in the campus drive. It conducts placement preparation test, which include test and mock interview. Amazon, Infosys are some of the big companies that recruit students from our department. Average package is 10 LPA and highest is 48 LPA. Yes, I also got placement from institute with decent package.
 

Hostel Rating
Yes, the institute offers hostel with sharing rooms, which include bed, chair, table, and ACs. Yes, girl’s and boy’s hostels are separated. Food quality was decent. There was no particular in and out timings. My personal experience was very nice.
 

Infrastructure Rating
As mentioned earlier, there was a temporary campus, which included only one academic block but that was well maintained. There was no issue with the academic block. It had a gym. There were multiple classrooms to minimize crowd. Sport facilities include cricket, volleyball, football, badminton, chess, table tennis, pool, and carom. There were medical centre with an ambulance facility. It had a night canteen that is opened until 3 AM so anyone can eat at night.
 

Campus Rating
My life was fantastic. There was a less crowd. There were multiple clubs and I was the part of robotic club. ‘Meraz’ is the fest, which happens every year. IIT Bhilai was also active in conducting sports tournaments for multiple sports (indoor and outdoor) like cricket, football, chess, badminton, basketball, volleyball, pool, etc. My experience at the campus life is the best till now. I enjoyed a lot and worked hard to achieve my goals.

  • IIT Bhilai's 3rd Gen Status Offers Unique Academic and Career Opportunities

    I chose IIT Bhilai because my rank in JEE Advance. One of the other reasons why I chose this institute was because of one of my parent’s friend's son studying there. I could have gotten CSE in some of the good NITs but the IIT tag seemed very promising so I went for it. My experience over here has been average.     Frankly speaking, I aimed at clearing JEE ADV and nothing much, so it was never my thought to get into IIT Bhilai. In fact, I was a bit depressed when I unexpectedly got into it, in the 6th round of my counselling(mine was the closing rank of that year) or I would have been writing a review on IIT Indore by now. Cool! But now I feel IIT Bhilai CS is a better one for me as CS has lot of interesting things to get into and I can't regret this decision because it's the only one for me.... Read Full Review

    Study in IIT is one of the dreams for every student either of JEE or graduate as IIT provides not only better instrument facilities but also an environment where the future of India studies. I was getting all third generation and 2-3 second generation IIT through IIT JAM but I choose IIT Bhilai over others due to my senior’s advice and its overall faculties and facilities....
