Fee Structure and Admission Process at SCMC Pune

My overall experience in at Symbiosis Centre for Media & Communication was pretty good. As a filmmaking fan, this college turned out to the best option for me. Students who want to study Filmmaking, Journalism, Advertisement, or Public Relations should choose this college. You are not only provided strong theoretical knowledge but you will also have an opportunity to work within the industry at the company of your choice. This makes the college stand out as on-field experience is not offered at other institutes. This college prioritizes your overall experience instead of solely focusing on books and theoretical data.

I chose the Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in Mass Communication program with audio visual specialization. I wanted to become a filmmaker and my career goals were aligned with the course provided at the college. Students have to take the SET (Symbiosis Entrance Test) entrance exam to get admission in this course. Once you qualify that, there is a personal interview round taken by the faculty of the college. You are selected based on your SET score and personal interview results. We had exams at the end of every semester. My course was designed to prepare us for the real world.

My annual fee at Symbiosis Centre for Media & Communication was nearly Rs. 3,00,000. The total fee for the 3 years program including hostel expense was Rs. 10,00,000. However, for NRI students, the fee was approximately Rs. 3,00,000 per year.

The faculty of this college is really good as every teacher had good industry experience with their field. The teacher student ratio for my specialization was almost 50-60 students with one teacher. Those teachers are very friendly and approachable. A student can learn a lot about the industry by just talking to the faculty.

There is a Placement Cell available at our college whose members are chosen by the faculty. It has 2 members from each specialization which makes total 8 students. The Cell provides internship opportunities to students. We had to complete a 2-month internship provided by the college which trained us to face real-life challenges. The Placement Cell provides students an information sheet about the companies visiting the campus for recruitment purposes. Afterwards, the students have to fill out a preference sheet in which they have to select their desired company and the location. The Cell is responsible for communicating with potential employers. One of the most renowned companies which visited our campus recently was Coca Cola. The average package lies between 3 LPA to 5LPA. I did not opt for placement from the college but many students got placed at good companies.

There are two college hostels which provide separate accommodation facilities to male and female students. The girls’ hostel is approximately 1 kilometre away from the college. It is divided into 2 buildings which are named Orchid and Daisy. Orchid has 2 occupancy rooms whereas Daisy has 3 occupancy rooms. Hostelers can reach the campus through the nearby bus station. The hostel also has guest rooms where parents could live for a few days or when visiting. There is a mess which serves food 4 times a day for breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner. Good quality vegetarian and non- vegetarian food is provided at the mess which is divided clearly. My hostel experience was very good. The rooms, the food, and the services were excellent. The cleaning staff at the hostel was available 24/7 to resolve our issues.

The college has 2 main gates which have good security. The building has 6 floors in which the administration department and library are on the ground floor. Design students occupy 1st to 4th floors while the 5th and 6th are for mass communication students. Each floor has 8 rooms including 4 screening rooms. There is an AV studio present on the 6th floor which is used for practical work like studying camera equipment or shooting AV assignments. The college also has an amphitheatre & an auditorium for events along with a cricket ground and basketball court. Students can access a number of facilities at the college like medical aid, general store, and an underground canteen.

My overall campus life was very fun and lively. To keep students engaged, the college has clubs for various activities like dance, debate, literature, music, theatre, poetry, and many more. The college organises events like ‘Vaividhya’ and ‘Madhyam’, which are performed by all 3 batches. ‘Anukram’ is a professional event in which industry experts are welcomed to share their insights. During this particular event, the students get networking opportunities which could help them after graduation.
