Life at SCMC Pune: India's Top Media College

Overall Rating
Symbiosis Centre for Media and Communication is among the best media colleges in the country. It is situated in Viman Nagar, near the airport and lush greenery of Pune, the location provides accessibility. SCMC is one of the best choices to study media at an undergraduate level, because most other media colleges in India provide postgraduate courses. It provides the perfect combination of rigorous academics, co-curricular and sports activities. SCMC is a great choice also because of its location near Mumbai, which is a media hub and its brand name that brings great opportunities.
 

Academics Rating
I studied B.A Mass Communication. However, the college has now changed its course structure because of the New Education Policy. The institution provides two courses - B.A Mass Communication and BBA Mass Communication are 4-year courses. SCMC has its own entrance exam called Symbiosis Entrance Test, which is like any other entrance exam that consists of sections like English, quantitative aptitude, and G.K. Once you clear the exam, there is an assignment followed by an interview. There are internal assignments for each subject and a final exam at the end of the semester. Minimum 75% attendance is compulsory in each semester.
The fee for one year in SCMC is around 3 Lakh. The fee structure for Indian students and NRI students is different. There is a scholarship given if you score more than 8.5 GPA in a semester.
 

Faculty Rating
The faculty is amazing, there is an HOD for each specialization. Most of the faculty members have PhDs. The faculty is very friendly and easy to approach. For some subjects, there is guest faculty from other Symbiosis Institutes. The college frequently conducts guest sessions with industry experts, which provides a nice opportunity to network and interact with industry people. The classrooms have screens and projectors, teachers use PPTs and videos to teach. Some professors also teach through a lot of activities and practical sessions.
 

Placement Rating
The students are supposed to have an internship at the end of each year. At the end of the first year, it is an internship in the development sector, followed by industry internships from the second year. The college has an internship and placement cell. Students are elected as coordinators for internships and placements, and the team is headed by a faculty.
 

Hostel Rating
The college has a separate girls' hostel and a boys' hostel. It is a common hostel for all Viman Nagar campuses of Symbiosis, situated within a 2 KM radius from SCMC. There are two girls' hostels. The hostels are good and properly cleaned. The college also provides a bus service from the hostel to college.
 

Infrastructure Rating
The college shares its campus with three other Symbiosis colleges. It's a very big campus located near the Pune Airport. The campus is well equipped with lifts and water coolers. There is a library and a ground on the campus. Other sports facilities are available and free to use in other Symbiosis Viman Nagar campuses. The SCMC campus also has a canteen, mess, ATM, a stationery shop, gym, juice center, and a general store.
 

Campus Rating
The campus life is very vibrant. The college has its inter-batch fests along with inter-college cultural and sports fests. It also organizes annual research conferences with industry experts. There are different cells and clubs. The clubs hold their sessions and organize different activities. Since there are multiple Symbiosis campuses at the same location, you can also participate in their fests and competitions happening throughout the year. Festivals are also celebrated in college and hostel.

    My overall experience in at Symbiosis Centre for Media & Communication was pretty good. As a filmmaking fan, this college turned out to the best option for me. Students who want to study Filmmaking, Journalism, Advertisement, or Public Relations should choose this college.   • SCMC is the best school to learn Mass Communication

    Well, being an Arts student there wasn’t much left on the table as almost all the niche courses are for commerce and science students. BA in Mass Communication is a niche course and SCMC Pune for sure is the niche college for it. Coming from Nagpur SCMC was the only choice for me because Mumbai has their advantages but then some disadvantages too.     SCMC has a great infrastructure that has helped its students to express the way they want. We were given a free hand in terms of choosing all that we want among various options. Unlike my friends who chose advertisements, I chose journalism and understand what it takes to be a responsible media person.     SCMC is among the few colleges that offers media course. In media there were few options such as journalism and advertising and I chose advertising. The media course designed by Symbiosis is more inclined towards practical so that we are industry ready as soon as we pass out.
