SCMC Pune Provides Various Scholarships & Fee Concessions

Symbiosis Centre for Media and Communication Pune is my dream College that would help me achieve my career expectations. The College strives to bring out the best in their students and make them professionals that can survive the harsh life of a media professional. It allowed me to work on my negatives and look into the life of a media professional. With assignments that would open your creative side of the brain, peers who would make you think hard about topics, and a faculty that helps you become the best version of yourself, this College has carved it's name as one of the best Media Colleges in India.

I decided to enter the B.A Mass Communication (Hons.) course which opened up fields of Multimedia Journalism, Film Studies, and Film Production for me. The admission process has 3 stages. The first one was the SET exam which was their entrance exam. If you pass that you go on to the second and third stages which were essay writing and personal interview respectively. You need to have a 10+2 level education to enroll in SCMC Pune. The year is divided in two semesters. Every semester has a mid semester exam and a semester end exam. The College excels in practical knowledge and provides students with as much exposure as possible. There are multiple assignments throughout the semester and all of those assignments have helped me understand the subject I am learning more thoroughly.

The fee is paid Semester wise. The first year payment consists of Rs. 1,93,000/- in first semester which is then followed by Rs. 1,73,000/- in the second semester. There is a Rs. 20,000/- deposit fee for the Institution that is refundable. There is a University Merit Scholarship awarded to one person in College that helps cover 50% of the academic fee. This is provided to the topper of semester 1 of the Undergraduate program, and subsequently would be merit based if the same student shows academic excellence with a GPA of 8.75 for the following semesters. This scholarship has no income limit of the parents and is purely merit based. There is another scholarship provided which is called Jayatee Deshmukh Scholarship which is provided to a female child who secured the highest marks in the SET.

The faculty members of the College are all highly trained professionals who have done excellent in their chosen fields. Our Director, Dr. Sreeram Gopalkrishnan has been in teaching for a long time and has been in high positions during his entire career. Our faculties have all worked in prestigious brands before entering the teaching industry. The faculty uses ways such as PPTs and group discussions to get the students involved in the topic and to teach us. They allow us to have our opinions on topics and guide us towards facts and figures. The faculties are extremely approachable and help us as much as they can to make our ideas into a polished product.

The placement cell of our College helps the student to get jobs that will help them flourish. Our cell allows us to have one on one with companies and organises fests where professionals come and help us understand the job requirements. Companies like Zomato, The Hindu, etc. visit the College for recruitments. The highest package has been 7 LPA and the average is 3.6 LPA.

Yes, the College provides residential facilities. There are 4 hostels for girls which are Orchid, Daisy, Tulip, and Daffodil & 1 for the boys which is Kopou. The number of rooms is different for each hostel and can easily accommodate at least 500 students. The hostels are at walking distance from the campus with bus service available for the farthest one which is Orchid and Daisy. The mess food is tasty and the menu every week is made keeping nutrition in mind. The hygiene is taken care of at all times and there are 4 meals available: breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner. The safety is kept in mind with the curfew is implemented from 10 PM. The hostel has been an amazing experience for me. The staff is extremely respectful and responsible and helped me get comfortable.

The College is in Viman Nagar and shares its campus with 3 other departments of Symbiosis. The classrooms are all modern with AC and fans. There are screening rooms which help us analyse media videos. There is a shooting floor, library, auditorium, amphitheater and Rangoli, our College's store which has everything from stationery to food available. The canteen has different cuisines and there is a mess for hostel students in the campus as well. There is a medical centre and an emotional wellbeing centre. The tunnel area which is essentially a seating area near the auditorium is my favorite spot in the campus.

The College provides me with the College life I had always dreamt of. The crowd is a mix of people from all over India. This helps us know more about the culture of other states. There are multiple clubs like the Dance, Music, Debate, Theatre club, etc. These clubs are responsible for handling events in our fests. There are two fests that the College organises every year. Our biggest fest is Satrang, which is our cultural fest. This includes events from the clubs and musicals. Our next fest is RUSH, which is our sports fest which brings sports fanatics and athletes together. Overall, this College provides me with the best College experience and is a full package and I am glad to have chosen this College to help me achieve my dreams.
