Secure Admission in IIT (ISM) Dhanbad through JEE and GATE

IIT (ISM) Dhanbad is the one of the oldest institutes in India. It was established in 1926 and at that time it was known as "Indian School of Mines" (ISM). It was given the status of IIT in 2016. Overall, it is a good institute with outstanding internship and placement opportunities. Apart from this, the infrastructure, hostels, and campus life are also outstanding. The administration is extremely strict in terms of punctuality, ragging, cheating, and any other malpractices.

This institute offers numerous courses with various specializations. Some of the Engineering branches available at the institute are Computer Science, Electronics & Communication, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, Mathematics and Computing, Environmental, Geophysics, etc. I am doing B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering. It is a four years course with two semesters in each year. Students need to qualify JEE Main and Advanced exams to get admission in B.Tech course. GATE exam is necessary for admissions in M.Tech program. The curriculum for my course includes theoretical and practical subjects, with some elective subjects which are selected as per students’ choice. We have one mid-semester, one end-semester, and some quizzes as our exams.

For B.Tech program, the tuition fee is Rs. 1,00,000. Students also have to pay additional semester wise fee in which the odd semester fee is Rs 26,000, and even semester fee is Rs. 36,000. Therefore, the total yearly fee is Rs. 2,62,000. The institute offers scholarship for the weaker sections of the society. If your family income is less than Rs. 1,00,000 than you will get 100% tuition fee waiver and if it is less than Rs. 5,00,000 then you will get 67% tuition fee waiver.

The institute has a large number of faculty members within various branches. All of them have done their PhDs from reputed colleges. Most of the professors have relevant industry experience. Their teaching skills are not up to the mark. They have knowledge but they don't know how to deliver the knowledge to the students. The institute has Smart Classes with Projectors and writing TVs. Some professors teach using PPTs, while some use writing TVs. The teaching staff is friendly and willing to help their students in need. Most of the time, the professors are present in their cabin in respective departments. Students can approach any professor to resolve their doubts or to get help for academic work. If you are willing to learn something new and interesting, you can work with the professors in their project works.

Ours Placement Cell includes the students, professors and other staff members. Computer Science branch leads with highest placement packages which is closely followed by the Mining and Petroleum Engineering branch. Overall, we have internships are average whereas the placement records are good. We have 80 - 85 % placement percentage with top recruiters visiting the institute such as Google, Microsoft, Accenture, Goldman Sacs, Paytm, BNY Mellon, Amazon, Barclays, Tata Steel Aditya Birla, Jindal Power, Vedanta, Baker Hughes, and many more. Our highest on-campus placement package is 60 LPA which was offered by Square Point and highest off-campus package is 1 Crore. Our average placement package is approximately 18 LPA.

IIT (ISM) Dhanbad has sufficient Hostels for both girls and boys which are available separately. It also has separate hostels for UG, PG, and PhD students. Each hostel has its own mess with good quality and hygienic food. The mess fee is Rs. 18, 000. Our hostels close at 12 A.M and students are restricted entry and exit at the campus after 10 P.M.

The campus is spread across around 400 acres with great infrastructure. The heritage building of the institute is one most well-designed aspect of the infrastructure because it was built in 1926 and it is going to be 100 years old next year. It has multiple academic blocks and innovation centres. The institute has of the largest libraries in Asia. Students are provided high speed internet connectivity through Wi-Fi and LAN cables. The institute also has Student Activity Centre (SAC) where different sports facilities, gym, and clubs are available. We have an innovation hub where students can get innovative or entrepreneurial opportunities.

Overall, the campus life is good. We have 4 fests in a year which includes 1 large and 1small fest per semester. The institute conducts East India's largest cultural fest which is called ‘Srijan’, sports fests which is known as ‘Parakram’, and a technology fest known as ‘Khanan’. We have different clubs for students which includes 2 dance clubs LITM and WTC, writing club Chaynika Sangh, a public speaking club LITC, a singing and instrumental club Manthan, a poor kids helping club Kartavya, and many more. Different sports competitions and Hackathons are organized by the institute.
