I had two options during my JOSAA Counselling, mechanical engg, one at IIT Guwahati and the other at IIT Roorkee. I got IIT Roorkee in the last round. Honestly, I preferred IIT Roorkee also. Reasons were simple; it’s the oldest engineering college of Asia, proudly celebrating its 175 years of excellence. The location is also better for students to live by and a vast and honoured alumni network also.

I got mechanical engineering branch here. The only requirement during my time was getting a JEE Advanced rank from AIR 2400 to AIR 4400 approximately. For admission process, one needs to have documents such as class X and XII pass certificate, category certificate and some passport size photos. The process can be online also, but the same things are required. Also, I was interested in mechanics since my school days and working with machines was my motive factor to join this course. Also the curriculum of this course is always updated keeping in mind with the ongoing demands.

The faculty at IIT Roorkee is very good. The professors here are of inclusive nature and always welcome enthusiasm from the students. They conduct tutorials and practicals on a weekly basis to ensure a proper and hands on experience for the students. They also supervise various research projects for students and their recommendations and LOR prove very impactful for students applying at foreign universities for pursuing higher education.

Yes, there is Training and Placement Cell at IIT Roorkee. Adhering to its guidelines its main aim to provide best offers from the best companies all over the world. They conduct regular seminars for placement sessions and interview preparations. The highest offer made this year was about Rs. 1.5 Cr on day 1 of placements.

In IIT Roorkee, accommodation is very good. Most of the students get single rooms from the 2nd year itself. Proper sanitation and facilities of laundry barber and 24 hrs canteen is made available at each dormitory here.

The campus has wonderful buildings with some of the best architecture designs. Its main attraction is the Thomason Building, made at the time of the British and still manages to strike the eyes of the viewer. The APJ Abdul Kalam Block Lecture Hall is again a beauty made recently in 2021, where students attend their lectures. Besides these, there are separate blocks for each department spread over a large area. The SAC (students affairs council) building is the main attraction for the students where they participate in various club activities.

Overall, it's just like a dream come true moment for any student here. There are a lot of clubs, technical and cultural both, so that students can carry out any of their hobbies in college. The sports facility is one of the best among all IITs with national level coaches. Several events are conducted such as Inter-IIT sports meet, cult-meet. The clubs are provided with proper findings and administration fully supports the zeal of students. The research facilities are also a good option here.

It has two tests Cognizance (technical fest) and Thomson (the biggest fest of North India). The funds are very high and various events of fun, recreation and competition are conducted. The campus gets filled with students from other college to catch a glimpse. Big celebrities (Sonu Nigam, Zubin Nautiyal, stand up comedians) come as chief guest. Besides all of these it serves as a second home where you live with many friends and create memories which last a lifetime.
