Indian Institute of Technology M.Tech Review By Prashant Sharma

After the counselling process I went IITBHU for the interview and then the document verification. After document verification classes starts. I took admission in 2021 and classes started one month late due to massive wave of corona virus. In first year of my program classes started in hybrid mode from the month of September and they continue the classes in this manner and there was little interaction with the classmates and seniors. But in second semester things got changed because Covid was over and normal classes start then the real college life started in second semester and then I had also participated in the technical fest the happened in the November and after that I realize that campus is really humongous. I choose this institute because it was best institute for the electrical engineer that I can get from the counselling process.

I choose the branch Electrical Engineering- Power electronics and I choose this course because I was very fascinated by the power electronics topics and it was my favorite subject in the under graduation. I took admission in IIT BHU in 2021 and I had completed my graduation in 2020 from BIET Jhansi So I took one year time for preparing for the GATE exam. Since all the coaching were shutdown due to Covid so I took online coaching from Unacademy and did my preparation at home and I had secured AIR 241 in my second attempt then I apply for the counselling on the portal and in the second stage I got the seat in the institute. Entry requirement for the course is qualify the graduation and get good rank in the GATE exam based on the merit. I have given term exam in my graduation and here in the IIT Varanasi and I can say that term examination here are very tough and it is really hard to qualify them by just studying a night before the paper.

Faculty in my department are good but in my first year I felt that they are not good and in my first year I has passed my semester by self study because it was difficult for me to go one day for offline class and one day for online class. In second semester all classes were offline then I realize that all the teachers are very good and they explain hardest topics with great ease. All the teachers in department are well qualified in the field of electrical engineering and especially in the domain of power electronics and high voltage switching areas and their style of the teaching is good when they teach in offline mode. As M. Tech students we also get opportunity to take the doubt clearing classes and tutorial for the B.Tech students and believe me that is a very good experience and at the same time we also learn a lot from them.

Placements are very good in the IIT BHU because it is premium institute of the country and nearly all the good companies visit the campus for giving jobs to the students. I was preparing for GATE for getting job in Public Sector undertaking but I was unable to get the job and at that time one of my senior told me to go for the post graduation because there are very good opportunities after M.Tech from IIT BHU and it become true. In my batch placements started from third semester and already 70 percent students got placed and one semester is still remaining in the course. Highest package in my course till now is 78 LPA offered by Samsung and the Lowest package was 6 LPA which was offered by Havells. Average package in last year’s batch was 22 LPA and 95 students got placed in my senior's batch, remaining 5 percent apply for the research in the field.

IIT BHU Hostel fee is very low which Rs. 12,000 per year and because it is a government university and funded by the government of the India. There are 3 seater, 2 seater, and single seater rooms are available in the hostel and fee is also increased from three seater to one seater. Since college is expanding the seats and expanding the course in the university so residence facilities also need to made and new hostels are building in the institute. College students are not allowed to stay outside the university and I think It is really good rule and really help in the encouragement of the college culture. Mess in the hostel is very clean and very well maintained in all those years, Food quality in the mess is really good and they serve different food each time in a week and we get special food on Sunday night.

Indian Institute of Technology, Varanasi campus is inside the Banaras Hindu University and the overall area of the University is 1300 acres which is really a city in itself. There are 4-5 Crossroads in the university and all the crossroads looks same which indicate that how beautiful the architecture of the university is. College infrastructure is good and there are more than 100 buildings in the university. BHU offers more than 50 that are there are many academic blocks in the institute. Architecture of the university is great, Since university is older than 100 year since is origination still it upgrades itself and remains like a newly incepted university and that is the beauty of the IIT BHU. There are many places in the campus where you can just hangout with friends. There are a lot of resources in the college like a big auditorium, Indoor Sports facility, practice Workshops, Guidance Center, Innovation block, World Class Library and a Olympic level swimming pool and international level grounds.

I have not participated in the all fest because there were no fests organized in first semester because of the corona virus. KASHIYATRA, SPARDA, and TECHNIC are some of the main fest that happens in the institute for the students. College life is good and really it is a wonderful experience to study in this college. Every facility is available in the institute from the all academic facility to all the extracurricular activities and all the other hangout facilities are available in the institute for the college students. There are many clubs in the institute which are more than 100 in numbers and I am also part of the Shayari Club and Stand Up comedy club. There are many places in the university for the students where we can go and sit and enjoy and have discussion with friends and we can also arrange event with coordination with fellow students. All the fest that happens in the students are organized by the students itself and they also arrange the funds for the event organization.
