HBTU Kanpur: About Academics, Fees, and More

Overall Rating
My overall experience for the University is average. The University is having lush green campus, good library, good clubs, and societies. I chose this University just because of my JEE Main rank; this was the best possible option which I had had. This University was also near my hometown and I was getting admission in the top branch here. Therefore, I decided to take admission here. However, recently (2025), it has been ranked on 201-300 band in 'Engineering' Category by NIRF. The University is average and it is can be considered if you are a local of Utter Pradesh.
 

Academics Rating
The course, which I chose is Computer Science & Engineering. I chose this because I m having interest in it since my very childhood and it is also one of the most in demand branch. The entry criteria of the University are through JEE Main percentile. The University allows intake of the 85 students in each branch. The admission process is quite simple, you have to apply through the official website and the from is released each year at the time of counseling. There are exams three time in the semester, mid 1, mid 2 and the end sem in span of six months.
For me, the tuition fee is Rs. 75,000/- per year. Total fee is Rs. 1,35,000/-. The other charges include Registration fee is Rs. 10,000/-, other facilities Rs. 30,500/-, Medical fee is Rs. 3000/-, Training & Placement fee is Rs. 4000/-, and Activity charges are Rs. 3000/-.
 

Faculty Rating
The faculty of my University is average. Some of them are helpful like, if you ask any doubt anytime, they will always be there to help you. The problem solving abilities of the faculties are good enough. They are well qualified. The teacher student ratio is 1:30 in the University. My experience is overall average with the faculties.
 

Placement Rating
The placement cell of HBTU Kanpur needs to be improved much. Though, the cell approaches the companies for internships and placements.
 

Hostel Rating
University provides hostel for each year students. Most of the rooms are double and triple seater. The hostel facilities are average. The mess quality is also average. The food is provided four times a day and the hygiene are maintained properly. The hostel is closed after 9 PM. My personal experience in the hostel is good as in Engineering, the hostel life is something, which you should not miss out.
 

Infrastructure Rating
The campus infrastructure is bit old and the main building look like it needs renovation. The classroom size is average but have ACs. Library, labs, and seminar halls are well maintained. Canteen facilities are good in the University but they can definitely improve it. The centenary pillar, parks, and lush greenery are the major attraction of the University.
 

Campus Rating
The overall campus life is good to average. It is good they you will definitely enjoy your campus life. The University crowd is decent like you will find most of the students are from the Kanpur local itself and very few around 5% students are from other states. The University has multiple clubs and communities and I m also part of many of them as it is what that makes your campus life interesting. The fests are organised in the month of March / April in HBTU Kanpur and is known as the name of ‘Adhyay’.

    I am a student of HBTU pursuing my Undergraduate program B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering. My experience at this university is good. There are some factors that made me choose this particular institute and one of these are its alumni network and it is a government university so it has its own value.     Harcourt butler technical University (HBTU) is located in Nawabganj Kanpur. HBTU is mother of IIT Kanpur. HBTU has two campus on is south campus others are in West campus. South has only hostels and field for games like Satabdi Bhavan. All academic buildings and departments are in west campus and all of them are good.     I got in to HBTU through JEE Main exam. Now talking about experience, this college is overall good since the alumni base of this college is very strong.     HBTU Kanpur is a tier 1 university. It is very old, as it was established in 1926. Many companies offer packages of around 8-10 LPA during on-campus placements. It has two campuses: east campus and west campus. East Campus has a main building, all engineering departments, labs, class, lecture hall, girl’s hostel, first-year boy’s hostel, and football ground.
